View Full Version : Is Metal Gear for the NES just fucking unplayable?
James

Every time I try to play this, I can't. The controls are stiff, and evading enemies seems to be more random than skill (especially dogs; I am convinced you cannot sneak past, and only by way of glitch will they leave you alone).
I found binoculars that don't do shit, only to leave the trush I found them in to be immediately attacked by a soldier.
I try to sneak along, and I get caught up on single pixels that just out from boundaries, and stop me dead in my tracks.
Seriously, is this game just really bad or something? Because it seems like it sucks.

It's not that bad. I never completed the game though. I got stuck in this room where some armored vehicle runs over me. :/
But up until that point, I quite liked the game.

The "real" metal gear 1 is for the MSX. It's a lot better.

It's essentially almost the same game but yeah I agree, the MSX version is better but the MSX wasn't really available to us in the states back then so the first one I played was the NES version.
I haven't played 1 for years though so not sure how it plays to this day. I remember it being quite fun for its time.

Japanese system.
Subsistence will include both the MSX versionf os MG1 and 2, so we'll see if those are any better. But fuck this NES version, because it really is unplayable.

It usually goes something like hide->sneak->grab->stab

It's not a system, it's a computer. I don't know anything else about it, but I'm pretty sure it's possible to get an emulator and play the "good" Metal Gear on it.

I hate how big boss always calls you when you get hurt by a trap and he's all like "lol I forgot to tell you about that"
You'd think that for a black op which the fate of the world is riding upon the guy in charge would be a little more responsible

The only way to play through the game and maintain your sanity is to ignore those messages as much as possible.

I don't know.
I wish they added certain missions like a boss hun kinda thing. Where one character takes controll of a member of the Cobra unit and has to survive the onslaught by the other 7 people

I already pre-ordered from Amazon. I can't wait to play the originals on my PS2 instead of some shitty emulator on my PC.

I gotta find a way to hookup my PS2 to the internets. I'm using wireless, so I wonder if they have wireless as well.
James

I'm sure you can hook up a wireless adapter, but it may require some third-party hardware and a little extra work on your part.
Girl Drink Drunk
Mar 9th, 2006, 10:14 PM
What really pissed me off about the game was that you had to switch between the card-keys rather than just use the newest one (like in MGS). Also, using the radio (or was the codec also in that game) was more confusing. Then again, it is hard to compare the two.

The stupidest part is where you're in a room with gas and you have to wear the mask, but the door on the other end is locked so you have to take the mask off and try different cardkeys while your health depletes rapidly :(

Mar 10th, 2006, 12:12 PM
I like that Metal Gear Solid tries to explain why you can open doors with keycards by mearly having them in hand.

depending on what you want, you might wanna look into a "wireless ethernet bridge". otherwise the Linksys WGA line of products might be what you want. This (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1115416826619&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper) is the Wireless-G version.

I hated that immensely. By the way, did you guys know that the image of Solid Snake (on the cover) was apparently modelled after Michael Biehn as Kyle Reese in the Terminator?

in the nes opening it shows 3 other soldiers parachuting in with snake but never explains what happens. Suppostedly in the MSX version it explains what happens to them.
also, snakes revenge
ArrowX
Mar 18th, 2006, 07:24 PM
in the MSX version of Metal Gear snake arrives in Outer Heaven via River, it also doesn't have the guys who say "I feel asleep"
EDIT: If you have subsictence post your character name.

I'm probably going to rent it sometime...but it already looks good enough to buy, with the online features, and stuff
ArrowX
Mar 19th, 2006, 12:21 PM
I'd reccomend it and it was reasonably priced for what you get. You get MGS3,MGO,MSX2-Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, and a boatload of Snake Vs. Monkey levels.
The online is fun but the main concensus seems to be that you just run around and spray wiht the M16 :( I try to actually sneak and I still die from the amount of fucktards who spray with the Dragunov. >:
EisigerBiskuit
Mar 19th, 2006, 08:17 PM
Got to play MGO. Funtastic.
AR sprayers do pollute the servers, but it's fun when you get around them.
Dirty magazine, Tranq gun to the head, hump body, punch awake, dive into target, ball grab move with Raikov, and Knifestab. :>
ArrowX

lol You can ballgrab!?
All I know how to do is use Ocelots SAA
If you havent already guessed my MGO name Is "ArrowX"
