View Full Version : Oh my god...this isn't supposed to be happening

OK so I was cruising my school's job listings. Just for the hell of it. Then I saw one that seemed kinda interesting. A scenario builder for Star Trek: Tactical Assault. Skills required were to know MS Excel and have strong logical skills. What surprised me the most was that there was no programming language I needed to know in order to get the job. I do know the "big 3" (C/C++/Java) plus some others, but DAAAAAAMN. So I applied. I don't care how obscure this game will be (maybe not, who knows), I'm still literally trembling from excitement after I received a call an hour ago telling me that I'll be working on a game that will be coming out for PSP and DS.
Holy shit.

Congrats though Marc, best of luck.

I'm tellin' ya, I-Mockery forums are a breeding ground for people who go on to work on video games. The question is whether or not we'll ever hear from Marc again now.
Congrats Marc. :picklehat

Man, congrats on the job! Consider yourself lucky, there aren't many opportunities like that anywhere, especially where I live.
Hope to see updates from ya!

Also attach your avatar to all business related emails and memos. They love that shit.
Also, on your second week, take it upon yourself to make Fridays Hawaiian shirt Friday. Just start wearing them, when people ask start a rumor that you heard it from another guy, see who follows suit. This will help you weed out who the truly cool people are.

Make sure to ask when you get to officially join starfleet, and 'what is Captain Picard really like?' when you get there.
Nice one, sounds like a gooooood job.

Damn you and your good fortune.
I kid, man. It's amazing when you see someone get something amazing.
But, alas, most video games are not made in Oklahoma. I have made them, B-Movies, and File-Sharing popular in Lawton, though, but it is a small victory over the many who wear the rebel flag as a bumper sticker.

OK so I just got back today and it was just sort of a broad overview of why they needed me and what I'll be doing...
Then they said that next week they'll evaluate how fast I can learn all this stuff and make a decision on whether or not they will end up keeping me, but they also said it's not that hard to learn, which kinda takes a little bit of the nervousness off :/

I'm starting at 9/hr, then 10 after a month, then 11 after another month :/
And my interviewer was so cynical, he called me a sadist for telling him that I liked AI (understandable if I was talking about the movie), and then he laughed when he read whatever bs I wrote for long term career goals.
What else...it's a tacky office, with every single little figurine you can imagine decorating every square inch of available shelf/desk space. There are entire game systems just laying around, and the PSP/DS devkits are hideous grey boxes about half the size of a normal computer with funky attachments. And there was this one woman who said "I have to take his brain, and put it into spreadsheets!" an laughed as if she was starting to lose it.

You see, because RoG said "breeding ground" and everything even though only 2 people have gotten hired for video game jobs so far (sorry chojin, you haven't made any money yet ;<) and so my joke was that they were having sex you know. Get it?
