I preordered the collector's edition already. I know my store won't be getting it til the 21st (Tuesday) which I think is the actual official release. It ships on Monday but good luck getting it Monday. I'm sure it's possible some places.
Oh and yea it's going to be $60 for the normal game I believe for PC as well as XBOX360

Did anyone set conjuration as one of their majors? The summons seen a lot more powerful now. I got Summon Scamp last night, and he's way improved. The first thing he did was flying knee a nord and his dog into the wall behind them :O

One thing I think is a little strange is that my Nord character has a all blue body but a white guy's face!

This game is pretty neat. Just a stereotypical AD&D nerdfest, but a good one.
I've only been to one city so far, but it seemed really claustrophobic. I really hope the other cities aren't like that. I loved Balmora but srsly that first city felt like i was playing Wolfenstein ;<
Oh and I like how they tease your thieving tendencies by letting you nab all sorts of neat shit and then spank you by not letting you sell it anywhere ;< I have like have a grand of shit that people won't accept from me ;<
Ninjavenom
Mar 24th, 2006, 02:45 AM
Apparently someone in the thieves' guild will buy stolen shit. Also, the guy who runs the Copious Coinpurse will buy certain stolen items. Outside of stealing the best ways to make money are to make bullshit potions with alchemy and to join a faction. Any food you steal can be used to make restore fatigue potions, which sell for up to 5 gold each on average. Just stack 'em and liquidate :O

Am I the only person who thinks the new persuasion system is idiotic
Ninjavenom
Mar 24th, 2006, 09:10 AM
You're probably using it wrong. The old one was worse because it was completely pointless. If someone's disposition dropped to 0, they didn't give a shit, but in this one, just about anyone will straight up attack you if you drop them to 0. Now speechcraft takes a little skill to do.
Supafly345
Mar 24th, 2006, 09:21 AM
Can't you make a person feel something other than just good or bad about you too? It seems much like the old one from what I can tell only much wider.
Ninjavenom
Mar 24th, 2006, 09:48 AM
It depends entirely upon who the person is. For example, some Nords are meh to boasting, some love it, some hate it. You've just gotta try them all.
Also, to anyone who's lacking fundage, try joining the Morag Tong. All you need to do is kill an innocent person, and their guildmaster approaches you when you sleep. Once you join, you can run about ten missions, each with a bonus prize for killing the mark/s a certain way, but you can still collect your money by straight up murdering the hell out of them. All of the bonus prizes are geared towards assassin characters anyway, so some of you may want to skip them. Anyway, once you run the last mission for your first Brotherhood Sanctuary, the next mission gives you both a large, empty place to live (well, you have to make it empty) and a horse named Shadowmere. So if you're not trying to drop a lot of dough on a horse or on a house at first, just run these missions first. Anything requiring stealth can just be chameleon or invisibled through, for our barbarian friends.
edit: cool note: After the second mission, try not to talk to too many people about your mark. Sometimes they do an awesome job of making you feel bad about killing them.

Mar 24th, 2006, 12:17 PM

I couldn't get the screenshot function to work, i wanted to show everyone this awesome tomb with a bunch of baby skeletons and shit and a zombie head i found :O
I finished the Morag Tong quests today, [SPOILERS AHEAD]
And now i am the only Speaker for the BLack Hand. They give you a robe and hood that fortifies Sneak, Light Armor, Illusion, Blade, Marksman, and Security for +20 each when combined, and through the quest tree you get tons of awesome anti-magic weapons and some sweet daggers. Now i just have to go to the Night Mother once a week, get a list of names, and give it to a subordinate to get weekly payment :O
I can even kill the people on the list myself if i want to :O
And now the Sanctuary is being filled with assassins who can i have tag along with me if'n i want:O
Fucking COOL. I hope the thieves' guild turns out loot as good as this one did.
Chojin
Mar 24th, 2006, 05:37 PM
You're probably using it wrong. The old one was worse because it was completely pointless.
Well, no. In the old one you would choose whether or admire or intimidate and they had seperate checks. In this one it's more of a really, really simple logic game than anything and the results are ridiculous. "I HATE YOU. I HATE YOU. I SEE. GO ON. I HATE YOU. I LOVE YOU. I HATE YOU. ;*. I HATE YOU. WELL DONE!" If I'm trying to persuade someone to like me, why do i have to threaten, admire, boast, and joke in equal portion? It just doesn't make sense at all.
And it removes a lot of the point in having a good speechcraft cause I can instantly make anyone love me after playing a 2-minute game of love-hate.
That bitch aside, I wanted to get up and cheer in the intro when it was panning over the world and playing the Elder Scrolls theme :<
Supafly345
Mar 24th, 2006, 07:31 PM
You had to do that in the last game too, you had to taunt, taunt, taunt, and if they didn't attack you before they got to zero you would have to bribe or else they wouldn't listen to you. So usually you would have to admire them when they were around 20 then start tauting around 60.
Chojin
Mar 24th, 2006, 10:30 PM
does that make the new system any less stupid
Been playing more today and the game is a lot of fun, though it's exactly like Morrowind. Not that that's a bad thing, though. I like the haggling system way better and the inclusion of fences does help to prevent you from wrecking the economy. The missions feel like something's actually going on as opposed to MISSION BEGIN MONSTER LEAP OUT HERE GO GO MISSION SUCCESS which is a big bonus; You actually feel like you're exploring a location instead of running around on a level someone built.
The guards have scared the bejesus out of me about 6 times now. Why the hell doesn't it make a noise when people magically phase through doors?
rummage rummage rummage HALT! AAAAAAAAH
Oh and I liked the music in morrowind better :< I don't remember any of the music in this game other than the hardcore junglism morrowind theme remix, which is still way worse than the morrowind theme.

Hijacking horses from stables is hilarious as shit. I like how after you steal a horse and ride to the next town as fast as you can the po-pos have somehow passed word on to everywhere in the game that you are an evil bad guy, even though they have absolutely no way of letting the other town know that before you get there.

Okay, so, I'm doing this mission where this paranoid guy sends me around town to spy on people who he thinks are conspiring to kill him. I lie to him about it and he pays me money. Eventually he tells me to kill all of the people.
Now, I realize you're supposed to turn him into the guards here but i'm really curious as to what's in the 'very hard' safe that he no doubt keeps my reward in ;< But every time I kill one of these people, no matter how stealthily, the game goes 'UNKNOWN FORCES HAVE WITNESSED OUR SHITTY PLOT DEVICE' and everyone in the world knows about it.
Is there anything I can do about that? I'm not above cheating to turn it off - it's completely unrealistic and queer.
Oh and I'm officially hooked again just like i was in Morrowind ;< I finally made a character I clicked with - An Austrian muscle-bound warrior who looks like he's related to Arnold who smashes suckas down and picks pretty flowers to make delicious beverages with.
xbxDaniel
Mar 26th, 2006, 12:22 AM
His house has a couple of maces and some various shit you find in any house. Nothing extravagent though. You'd be better off just having him killed by the guards, then stealing his key when he's dead. That's what I did anyways.
Chojin
Mar 26th, 2006, 12:23 AM
His key doesn't open the 'very hard' cupboard in his house, though. There's gotta be something in there.
And even if there isn't, I still would rather kill those people and get away with it ;<

it could be because this just came out so there's not a whole lot of seeds yet :( or if there are, then it's because the seeds to downloaders ratio is way screwed up like 5:1 or more :( i'm actually trying two different torrents at once right now and they're only going at about 50 kbps combined >:

The horse mechanics are not very good. With quick travel they are kind of just a nice addition, not really a necessity either.
I bought my character's 2nd house yesterday. Only 22,000 left. I turned level 22 last night as well. So far I have strength and endurance maxed out (nearing agility) as far as attributes. I only have sneak mastered so far for skills. It's kind of nice though since now in most dungeons I run across higher level monsters or humans mainly wearing expensive equipment like glass, ebony or real daedric stuff. Makes for good loot hauls.
My "Vow that Breaks" quest is broken for me still... bastards.

I ask because my character originally looked awesome and since i contracted vampirism he just looks like a really creepy old man. His jutting chin now has a sack of fat flapping under it and my skin's all cracked and saggy.
Is that all part of being a vampire or do I just age really quickly or what? Either way, I just look like an idiot in the best armor I have (grand champion raiments), like some 60-year-old cosplayer. And it's embarrassing.
And yeah, Ninja, I got that staff in my second cave raid too ;< I gunned down a good number of people in the arena with it but the armorers want $4004 to repair it so fuck that. And no-one has enough money on-hand to make selling it worthwhile.

So in Morrowind we had 4 classes of armor: Heavy, Medium, Light, And Unarmored. In Oblivion we have two: Heavy and Light.
Is it possible to get any benefit from not wearing armor at all in Oblivion? As in, do you get a dodging bonus like you did in Morrowind with unarmored, or a bonus to sneak or spellcraft? Or is it just what i think it is - none, but some unarmored clothing is enchanted?
And I would like some details on how vampirism works :< Feeding seems to neuter your powers, which doesn't seem like the way things should work.
Ninjavenom
Apr 3rd, 2006, 10:15 AM
Feeding nulls your powers but you get two distinct advantages from that - people won't completely hate you, so you can still buy things you need without charming, and the sun won't tear your ass a new one if you stay well fed. When you become a vampire and don't feed for 3 days, people fucking HATE you.
The advantage to not wearing armor is only available to spellcasters, whose spell effectiveness goes down according to what kind and how much armor they wear. Meaning that, for instance, if you had a 65% effectiveness, your fireball spell could hit a foe and do absolutely nothing. This makes an incentive for casters to wear their robes or just normal clothes. There are enchanted normal clothes, but you'll only see them if your character is more of a caster type. Almost all loot in the game is levelled towards your character and his/her stats. That's why if you're a light armor user, you won't find ebony as often as glass, and vice versa. That's also why most enchanted weapons you will find are either basic ones of the type you don't use, or fancy ones of the type you do use.

Ok, I beat all the main storylines and was very satisfied with how it went down in the end. Really gave you the sense of being a part of something epic instead of just a "one guy rises to save the world singlehandedly" storyline.
Despite not being as incredibly free as the last game, since this game makes it REALLY hard to max everything and become an overpowered brute that is good at everything, it is very rewarding, and I still want to keep playing. But at least now I will be able to cut back, every moment that hasn't been used on work has been used on this.

So there were these 3 guys in bruma who locked a SECRET ARTIFACT away in a nearby cave. They then made 3 keys to this chest because 'for one man to have a power this terrifying' would be bad. I get the item but a MAGIC WORD hides its TERRIBLE SECRET. The widow of the keyholder SPEAKS THE WORD!
It's an amulet of +8 to speed.
I killed her and stripped her naked.

that and the mission that is named "Shadow over Hackdirt" :lol
i stole the book of the deep ones from their church but man i was kind of hoping to actually get to fight a nameless horror of some sort :(
How do you get that mission? I went in and just searched around without having a mission to do:(
And yeah, you need to stay for like 10 hours then you wake up and it's kind of a recreation of the shadow over innsmouth inn scene, only you totally kill them all cause they're pussies :O

the mission isn't to steal the book but there's a mission to find the argonian shopkeeper's daughter in (forget the nearby town's name, Chorrol?) and the whole thing is highly reminiscent

Yeah, the guards chased me all the way into some abandoned ruin after I cold-cocked the bitch while she was sleeping. Fucker actually ran into the ruin after me and all the monsters totally ignored him as I hauled ass looking for some horrifying trap to spring on him. Unfortunately this ruin had NONE, but the guard didn't take my jackie-chan inspired powers into effect, so I slapped the weapon out of his hands and beat him senseless in a stairwell.

the scary relentless guards are not fun for running away from, especialy when they chase you for miles and miles through lakes and caves and such

yeah, you'd think for as often as you hear that that they would have a few more takes of it
i also hate how they force you into paused conversation to yell at you. i think that should be more of a thing where you have to yield to them to start that conversation.
The BREAKING THE LAW BREAKING THE LAW system needs work anyway, considering I can 'z' a plate to just move it, I get a bounty of 1 (though i can punch that plate with no conseqences), and then I can get murdered by the guard for doing it. NO ONE MISPLACES LIBRARY BOOKS ON MY WATCH CUT CUT STAB CUT CUT

I am almost certain that a mod of that system is imminent. I definitely agree that it needs work. The yielding thing would be nice. I also wish you could summon your horse from anywhere, or at least get a notice when they are actually dead. It would also be helpful if you weren't charged for killing a guard on accident with an area effect spell.
Does anyone else have Finger of the Mountain? If you cast a weakness to magicka spell and then a weakness to lightning spell on your victim before you use it, that fucker is almost guaranteed to kill anyone but a guard. I'm still trying to get my .ini hacks to take, so the lightning will be red, have twelve bolts, and 3x as much throwing power :O

i bet that spell would rule, but i don't have enough magicka to CAST it >:

They have a few posted on the elderscrolls forum. Including some to fix the gay leveling system, some ai tweaks, and thievery tweaks.
I hate the gay leveling system in this game, I thought maybe they would improve it. Why do they handicap you for picking all the skills you want as major skills? You end up gimped as fuck without getting those x5's ;(

Speaking of elder scorlls, I know this isn't relvent to Oblivion, but my morrowind construction set is not showing the rendering.

Just select Athletics and Acrobatics for some of your majors. Run around and jump everywhere.

making loads of trips to fort blueblood and back because all the loot you get is damn heavy is quite time consuming

I hate that if I want to have a good character I have to pick the skills i'm going to use most as minor skills and the skills I'm going to use least as major skills.
Who fucking thought of that?

I made a mod so that it's a bit easier to get higher multipliers. If anybody is interested in setting it up themselves the setting is under ilevelup(X)mult where X is the number of skills you've leveled. I basically made mine just a little bit easier, so it wouldn't be over balanced but still be nice enough to level my c haracter. I left the x5 multiplier alone, but made the rest of them possible one level lower, essentially.

Oh good, I was needing a map with the locations of the gates.
Btw, all of the SS I see of the PC version aren't that pretty, is there not a single person in the world who can turn the graphics and resolution up for this on their PC?

Some of the mods I'm running now!
Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul 1.2
New version out today! Basically makes mobs appear more frequently and level in a more sensible manner. Guys that are supposed to be challenging have higher level mininums than normal, but aren't set to unlimited level so that there's no bonus for levelling your character. Other neat stuff like clothes & silverware are worth more. The readme on this is ten days long, but it's basically a lot of neat changes that make the game more rewarding. Some other peoples' mods were absorbed into this huge project, including Lyrondor's Upgraded Combat Behavior and Better Water.
Natural Weather/Water by Max Tael
More realistic lighting effects & improved textures for the skies. Shadows moving over the sun make things darker. When it gets foggy, it's more foggyish. The world isn't as dark blue and purple, it's more realistically-tinted. The water is semi-transparent from above, but not overly. Just some neat things.
Natural Wildlife
Changes the animal scripting so that animals don't fight the same as people - Every animal has a chance to run when they notice you and some are more aggressive in certain circumstances than others. They also don't just charge at you and attack until they fall over anymore.
Improved UI
Makes icons smaller and increases various windows' size. Maps up/down arrows to common menu choices.
Topless mod
Terra mode :rolleyes
