That is one uncomfortable correspondents dinner.

I can't wait for Monday's Colbert Report.

YEAH BABY!

Whoever hired him is probably out of a job, but what the hell did they expect?

Prediction for the future: A Democratic front runner hires him to perform, and is very upset when, suprisingly, they get made fun of.

Too bad he wasnt around during the nazi regime. I would LOVE to see colbert "jokingly" slam hitler.

Yeah, he could tease Hitler about the imaginary gas chambers, and all the Jews he merely pretended to kill.

Geggy
May 1st, 2006, 03:38 PM
Yeah! Or he could poke fun at him for dumping the vast majority russians who died from the flu pandemic and then telling everyone they're jewish!

Geggy, could you make this (http://www.spookshop.com/images/masks/clown.jpg) your new avatar? Please???

Yeah! Or he could poke fun at him for dumping the vast majority russians who died from the flu pandemic and then telling everyone they're jewish!

Are you seriously suggesting the Nazis used the concentration camps for storing the victims of a flu pandemic?

Just a joke of course. But i've wondered where their bodies went though.

Kevin, I've found an even better picture of a clown for my avatar...

Here's the update and it's great news...

Skewering comedy skit angers Bush and aides
By Paul Bedard

Comedy Central star Stephen Colbert's biting routine at the White House Correspondents Association dinner won a rare silent protest from Bush aides and supporters Saturday when several independently left before he finished.

"Colbert crossed the line," said one top Bush aide, who rushed out of the hotel as soon as Colbert finished. Another said that the president was visibly angered by the sharp lines that kept coming.

"I've been there before, and I can see that he is [angry]," said a former top aide. "He's got that look that he's ready to blow."

Colbert's routine was similar to what he does on his show, the Colbert Report, but much longer on the topic of Bush, suggesting that the president is out of touch with reality. Aides and reporters, however, said that it did not overshadow Bush's own funny routine, which featured an impersonator who told the audience what Bush was thinking when he spoke dull speech lines.

In fact, some aides crowed over reports that the president easily bested Colbert in the reviews of both comedy acts.

too over the top for ya kevin?
yer right, more likely he'll fall down some stairs onto his umbrella or get caught in some frame up of a compromising arrangment with a minor.

seriously though, how did he get invited? some outgoing schedulers last shot? more likely the administration wanted to make the statement that they have a sense of humor and are open to criticism but i havn't heard yet.

I thought the white house coorspondants dinner always had comedians that ripped on the current adminisration. Colbert was just alot more ruthless than normal guests I'd say.

I really really doubt he will be secretly assassinated for this. I do not doubt thou that ranxer ate paint chips as a child.

I love how revolutionary and scandalous you guys think Colbert being at the dinner was.

I finally got a chance to see the video and I just don't get it. Why is either side worked up about this?

Its a roast. Colbert does political satire. What did anyone think he was going to be making jokes about? It didn't take a lot of balls and it wasn't that inappropriate.

In all honesty, I didn't find it that funny. Its the same stuff he does on his show bu it didn't seem to cross media all that well. It also dragged on too long. I'll admit, a few points had me laughing. Especially how he brought the laughter to a screeching halt into stunned silence with the phrase "graham cracker of corruption". I jut love cringe humor.

Only the people who are angry at bush for stealing elections, losing $2.6 trillion, 9/11 complicity, US patriot act, homeland security, lying about wmds, nookular, spying, katrina, iraq, letting osama run loose, mission accomplished, heckuva job, dubai deal, etc, etc, etc, and have had enough of him and his bullshit can fully relate and understand Colbert. HE GETS MY FULL SUPPORT. COLBERT FOR 08.

ranxer,

have you seen this clip from the Colbert report show? He brought up PNAC, which is rarely ever spoken anywhere on television, during an interview with WILLIE KRISTOL, one of the members of PNAC. His face turned freaking red and started talking about 9/11 even though Colbert didn't say anything about it.

perspectives on the whitehouse dinner; gotta say i havn't paid much attention to the past dinners but colberts performance was scathing in my opinion and worthy of repetition. surely colbert won't be assasinated, um, i was hoping that was a joke.. depends on who's telling i guess.

yea geggy, that's entertainment today. i'm too concerned with the state of the world to be entertained by anything that has no politics in it right now.

hows the new american century william crystal?! um.. the corps are making record profits and that was our goal so.. um, a success no?

What ya talking about, entertainment? Colbert report is the real news as opposed to kevin's favorite blue pill news channel CNN.

I saw him perform live, Georgey. It was the Thrill of a lifetime. He is absolutely my favorite comedian right now.

El Blanco
May 8th, 2006, 04:28 PM
Because he went to a roast and made fun of the subject of said roast?

mburbank
May 8th, 2006, 04:51 PM
Oh, laws no! Colbert has been rising among my favorite comedians for many years. I first saw him on te short lived but brilliant Dana Carvey show. Then Exit 57, then the beyond Brilliant "Strangers with Candy". His performance in the two part cult episode my him solidly my favorite. His work on the Daily show and The Colbert report has only solidified that opinion.

Doing exactly what he does in fornt of such a hostile audience (and I think the press where every bit as uncomfortable and hostile as the Prez) made me admire him, but it was not his best performance. I wil tell you from pesonal experience, it is HARD to stick with your thing when the audience is not digging you. I thought the Helen Thomas chase scene was the best of it.

I think the question you are asking is "What's the big fuss?" they hired him to do political satire, he did it, end of story. I pretty much agree. Here's my two cents.

When Chris Rock did the Oscars, he toned down. When John Stewart did the Oscars, he toned down less, but to me, his edge was blunted. Colbert was Colbert. It came across a little slow and a little stilted becaue the audience was not enjoying it. But he didn't pander.

That's my asessment.

I laughed myself to tears in one of the season finales of "curb your enthusiasm" in which colbert jinxed larry david in the play he was performing in. It was a short colbert moment but man, was it sweet.

ScruU2wice
May 8th, 2006, 10:49 PM
Yeah I hate how people think of Colbert as a political commentator first and one of the funniest men alive second.

Strangers with Candy is probably one of my favorite shows of all time and established colbert as being my all time idol. Everything he's done after that only further solidifies it. It's not like he just started being funny.

And I did not know he preformed live, I thought he just did a couple years of improv at second city. When did you see him max?

May 9th, 2006, 10:29 AM
Amy Sedaris, Paul Dinello and Colbert wrote a book called Wigville, which is a series of character Monologues. they went on a brief tour performing the book. It was damned impressive.

i was reading richard cohens column in the post today and he was bitching really hard cause he wrote a harsh opinion piece colbert and got 3,000 emails in a brief period telling him he (cohen) was a pompus ass.

cohen then tried to break hard on colberts non-threatening "1,000,000" viewers.

cohen was really pissed cause colbert rated more email than some lefty cause of own.

i love when he interviews congressmen.
