As none of you may or may not know, Maytag is my Hometown's only claim to fame, and believe me, they rub it in faces. Well, I don't really give a fuck because it's just some crappy washer/dryer/appliance company. But, Whirlpool bought it and they are closing the Newton, Iowa plant. What I don't understand is them closing something which is the only backbone for this white trash town, and the only thing this town is (barely) known for.

Our town's football team used to be called the Newton Washers For God's sake :/

It's the corporate money game, dude. It happens all of the time.

What's the best way to eliminate competition?
Buy it and shelve it.

It's funny how one town can make it's image a company, not thinking about how it may be bought out by another company.

On the plus side, we're getting amusement parks and malls.

Hooray for Corperate America!

One of the funny things about it is that Maytag could've been bought out by a nice Italian-American family business for $5 a share less, but they chose the giant competitor to sell to :)
