View Full Version : Anybody ever had a 'sleep study' done?

I had one Monday Night. It sounds so easy! In fact it was quite horrible. Anybdoy else here needed this, or just me?

What did they do? I saw a video clip of a sleep study in my psychology course a few years ago. They kept waking the guy up every 30 minutes and made him insane.

No, this was more a test for sleep disorders than an actual study of sleep. It took about an hour and a half to glue all these damn wires to my head, ankles and chest and then they plugged me into a wall and then at one in the morning they woke me up and had me put on this extremely cumbersome mask that dug into my nose most uncomfortably. And no one even gave me a 'happy ending'!

It looks like I have sleep apnea (although full diagnoses from all the data they took is about two wks away) which means I stop breathing in my sleep. The usual treatment for this is to wear something that looks like a cross between a fucking diving helmet and SM headgear every night for the rest fo my damn life.

I had something like that done. They thought I had epilepsy or a tumor or something like that. My head was hooked up to all these wires with some retarded hat or cap. Then they flashed all these colors in my eyes when I was awake and when I was asleep. The results proved nothing. I just had low blood sugar, and some craziness

Hey Max, I had a sleep study done once. In order to get me to fall asleep, they had me read one of your articles.

My dad had one for sleep apnia. He needs to go back, but the expirience was so bad he keeps delaying.

You could get nose surgery I suppose, that's what my father would rather do than wear the mask if he could afford it.

I think my problem is in my throat, not in my nose. Anyway, I was hoping they'd just prescribe a stimulant, but no such luck.

I had one about six years ago. Sounds familiar- lengthy head-wiring process, and then they said "OK, we're going to need to get some data of you sleeping on your back."

"I can't sleep on my back."

"Well, just try."

After lying sleeples in a dark room on a sadistically uncomfortable bed for what seemed like forever, I finally bundled the wires together in my hand (the only way I could move without tearing my scalp), rolled over on my side, and fell soundly asleep.

An undetermined amount of time later, the nurse came in, woke me up, and said "we need to have you sleeping on your back."

"I CAN'T SLEEP ON MY BACK."

ad nauseum, for the remainder of the night. I left at 7AM, feeling like shit, and about the only thing they said was, "stop smoking."

Cocksuckers. For a study of sleep to involve a set of controls that make it almost literally impossible to fucking sleep, it could only have been devised by the government. At least insurance paid for the damn thing.

I cannot sleep on my back at all, either.

My back is crooked like a question mark and my doctor advised me to try and sleep on my back for at least a month so it would straighten out my back. I did so for an hour then gave up, because I just couldn't do it.

If I sleep on my stomach, I'll stop breathing. I almost died a couple of times when I was younger.

my mom has a CPAP machine it sounds horrible, all night long its like a perpetual airplane taking off sound.

They make pretty quite ones now. Your Mom should get a new one. I don't think they make any that don't make you look and feel like a fucking deep sea diver, though.

This completely blows.

When I get my 'official dioagnoses' I'm going to start by asking them to remove my tonsils and adenoids and see if that helps.
