Pretty much if you like games of this sort it'll be good. It's definatley a game for the long haul though.

I'm in the Dem. Rep. of the Congo and have three people around me who, after inspecting their profiles, seem trigger happy :(

At first I was buying about 50/50 land and infrastructure, then I realized that my density was way too low. So I spent the last two days buying infrastructure. My happiness fell from about 16 to 12, and I'm making about the same amount of money that I was before, due to having more people with less money. My tax rate is sitting at 15%, and I have the luxury bonus :/

infrastructure is important because it increases your population and your tax base. you really don't need to worry about population happiness until you can start seriously buying technology and you really shouldn't do that until you can buy 1.00 (a full level) with a full day's income.

The first of my three negative events have expired, lowering my infrastructure costs and returning 5% of my army. My people are less happy now, since the army is about a thrid of my population. I usually don't mind when somebody attacks someone else, since that's part of the game. But I really don't like it when it seems that somebody exists just to piss everyone else off and try to wipe everyone off the face of the earth :(


I spend most of my money on infrastructure, and only buy tech when I'm able to buy 5 or 10 levels at a time on a single paycheck. The only thing it's good for after 15 levels or so is just for military purposes and small amounts of happiness. Improvements are valuable, and are more valuable as time goes on. Buying factories/labor camps early in the game will lower bills by next to nothing, but are invaluable assests later when infrastructure bills skyrocket. Despite the large $200K price for a Harbor, I thought it was well worth the week or so saving up for it due to all the bonus resources I got from just having one more trade slot.

Now I'm investing in schools. Schools themselves give a smaller income bonus than banks, but they allow for Universities, which give a bigger income bonus and decreases tech price.
