Can ESRB Handle the Truth? (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/723/723583p1.html)

I found this story funny.

It begs the question, "How much content would be enough content to properly rate a game?". If the ESRB has to play the whole game, end to end, and unlock everything, have every secret code, and/or explore the innards of the code, how long will such a thing take? It's not like they're the MPAA and take but 90 minutes and a little time after to formulate their decision after watching a movie.

i just assumed they looked at the source material, like textures or something, as well as playing it -a bit-.

I was told that they recieve footage of the game's most violent/explicit moments, and give the rating based on that.

That's exactly what they do. They recieve a small sample that exhibits the games most unsavoury qualities.
