Though it may be a short game, I'll always remember Altered Beast as the game that introduced me to the Sega Genesis. With that in mind, I created this tribute of sorts to the game to cover every aspect of it, good and bad.

The best thing from that game was the fact that you could punch the heads off zombies.

Damn, my brother used to borrow this game alot from one of his classmates. It was quite ok.

But damn, you had a Genesis too Rog? I've always thought that you're a hardcore NES Fanboy :(

I never played this for the Gen, but I remember finishing it in 15 minutes at a arcade.

The goat-horned zombie guy does this great celebratory move though if you hits you and this line had me confused. :(

jeff the ninja i think you need to change your avatar, since it's causing a password popup on my computer (and probably everyone else's too)

Good read. That was my first game for genesis too.

Finally, someone else noticed the little bugger from Golden Axe. Kudos!

Yeah, I did that to piss people off, and it worked. One time while playing rampage, a friend and I got into a huge fight cause someone ate something the other wanted :/ . Funny how that works.

Been a long time since I've given that game a thought. Good memories from that article.

I just played through it again and beat it in about 10 minutes. I don't know how it held my interest as a kid. If you get all the orbs the first time the blue wolves come by, you fight like 3 enemies and then the boss, every time.

Don't you get different transformations in some of the other versions of the game? For example, you get to become a Lion in the NES version.

The NES version was the black sheep of the Altered Beast games, and had a few different characters and levels. As gamer I know once said, "Altered Beast' for the NES is 'Bad Dudes' with furries."

Bad dudes had responsive controls though

I don't even think that game deserves to be acknowledged as something that exists.

I don't know if you noticed this, but in golden axe, in the begging a guy named "Alex" Dies, and on the tombstones that pop-up, ect, the name Alex is on them.

When I was a child, Altered Beast & Golden Axe were the only reasons I went to the arcade. At least for that one year or two when they were new!

I had forgotten how awesome, yet crappy, that game was. The developers must have become bored and just given up about halfway through its creation.
