I'm trying to finish up FFT, but I'm having a hard time getting back into the game. I just feel so overwhelmed by everything I have to face in the last chapter.
So, help me configure my team for optimal asskicking. Along the way, I must do the following;
-Get all special characters, including Cloud.
-Complete Deep Dungeon.
-Learn Ultima and Zodiac.
-Do all propositions
So, how should I have my party members configured to make everything as ridiculously easy as possible? I've seen cases where even in random battles, people can get their party members to kill off enemies in one attack. I need that. :(

i don't think there's a scenario a team of maxed out monks can't handle, but it's been way too long since i've played this game to give you any real advice. :(

Make Ramza a Chemist, then a Knight, then a Lancer, then a Geomancer, then a Monk, then a Ninja. Return him to Lancer and give him Auto-Potion as a reaction skill, then move +1 as a movement skill. Give him two-swords and watch him become an immortal killing machine. Equip him with a Vanish Mantle and Sunken State instead of auto-potion to make him a stealth-massacre. Also, level up one character into both white and black magic, as well as time magic just for Meteor and Teleport. Once he has mastered those, make him a calculator, and he will be able to cast any mage skills on certain characters at certain times. Give your Mustadio a Stone Gun and have someone use a Soft on him at the beginning of the battle. Orlandu makes the game retardedly easy. You may also want to invest some time in developing two of the following: Lancer, Geomancer, Monk, Ninja, Samurai. Mediator and Oracle are worthless. Bards are fun but kind of useless as well.

Sounds good, but I can't remember if Two Swords works in combination with lances. Aren't Samurai and Monks stronger than Lancers?
And is there anything wrong with levelling up a lot? Ramza's level 45 at the start of Chapter 4, but I read something about if I level up too much, it could make it harder for me to get Ultima. Is there anything else I need to worry about, in regards to levelling up too much?

Lancers are just stronger knights. They have great strength, but are not as strong as a monk, however, their defense is vastly superior. You want to use two-swords with the two strongest one-handed knight swords you can find.
Levelling up a lot will indeed fuck over your chance to get Ultima. The enemies level up with you, and the Ultima Demons start to get more powerful at an unfair rate, so if you try to make Ramza withstand it, he's not likely to live, unless you have a squad of healers casting every defensive spell in the book on him. They are also less likely to cast it at higher levels. If i were you i would just bite the bullet and try to get it from the demons surrounding Elmdor (after stealing all of his gear, natch) because that is the earliest point in the game you can get it with any practicality. Failing that, get it in the catacombs after you get Meliadoul in your party.

As far as Ultima, also make sure you are wearing the N-Kai Armlet and Black Costume or something similar (more than just Ramza wearing it is preferrable). If you are doing it against the Assasins, this will make them not have much of a choice but to cast it on you.

Well yeah, it was my intention to try and get Ultima from the Assassins, since I heard that was the easiest option. But I also heard that if I level up to much, it makes it harder to work out a "system" to learn Ultima from them.
I was just wondering if there was anything else that would be a problem if I continued to level up. Like, after I learn Ultima, is there any reason why I SHOULDN'T learn more jobs/skills and have my guys in the 70's-80's for levels before I do anything after AFTER getting Ultima?
Also, for stealing, what's the best setup to get a high success rate? I definitely wanna swipe everything Elmdor's got, but I don't wanna have to dick around too much.

put them to sleep or somehow disable them and steal from them.

I found stealing all of his stuff to be somewhat of a pain. I don't remember all the tactics I used but I know it took around 2 hours or so to get all the genji equipment, etc.

Use mustadio to don't act/dont use them or put them to sleep or slow them or something. Once they are disabled like that they instantly become easier to target with all skills and abilities. Steal their shields first then their weapons. Also having someone with item skill it a good idea. I don't know man i found it easy if you do that stuff... you can also break their speed and attack or something.. oh concentrate helps on the thieving character.. if ramza has thieve skills and he can do that yell thing i think it would help alot probably :(
oh lower their brave that also makes it easier to steal.

I just kept failing and it ended up taking a long time. I wasn't doing it the easy way (didn't have much of a plan going in other than to do it) unfortunately but I managed to take all of his stuff.

Awesome. But now is it OK for me to powerlevel AFTER getting Ultima?

You shouldn't really have any trouble. The main focus is that you want to be able to survive Ultima. Afterwards, it shouldn't matter much. I was around level 85 or so when first entering the DD and it was a cake walk.

IIRC the main story events don't scale up as you level, so all the plotline battles will be absurdly easy, while random encounters may be occasionally challenging.
Also, steal from behind (as if you didn't already know).

Yep, Kahl's on the money. Speed break until it won't break no more, lower brave, then steal in this order: shield, shoes, helmet, weapon, armor, accessories.

Why not Weapon first? It was the greatest thing ever to gimp Gafgarion, and it gimps the shit out of everyone else to take their weapon ASAP. I usually save armor for last, because it weakens their defenses so much, and I'm worried about accidental counter death.
Anyway, I just meant that , like with Ultima, if you level up too much, it apparently makes it really hard to "coerce" the assassins into using it and allow you to survive. I was just wondering if the same was true for Zodiac, or if there were other cases where I might gyp myself out of opportunities to do stuff. Apparently, there's really nothing like that to worry about though, so yay.

I would steal his shield then his weapon since it makes it easier. but yea i think he uses samurai skills i don't know how often he uses the one he wields though.

you take shield and shoes first so they have less of a chance to dodge your theft. I usually take a weapon last because it takes a while to gimp 'em to a point where my thief can be safe enough around him to take his weapon unharmed.

With those tactics you should have a lot easier of a time than I did. Elmdor... You bastard!
I should really play this through again it's been quite a while.
