View Full Version : Movies You're Embarassed to Like (:bandwagon)

In lieu if all the "Songs/Bands/TV Shows You're embarassed to say you like", I figured I would be a bandwagon whore and make my own crappy incarnation of this theme, so here it goes.
Me? Labyrinth. It wasn't a bad movie at all, it's just because at age six, it made my first ever crush be on David Bowie. :( At the time, I saw nothing wrong with it. My parents, however, thought it was hillarious. And I guess I'm ashamed of watching anything produced by Disney.

I loved Flash Gordon.
"ALL WILL MAKE MERRY...
...ON PAIN OF DEATH."
And the crappy synth rock themsong by Queen? Who could not like that movie, I ask you?
As for me, I liked was Silent Hill.
They changed the plot to be more understandable to John Q. Public (a pointless gesture, not a single non-gamer "got it"), but other than that, they used a lot of Silent Hill plot elements, the music was great, the monsters were very well-done, the atmosphere was dead-on, and it had more than enough retarded movie logic to make it enjoyable. I don't get why everyone bitched about it.

Big Lebowski is easy to lump into the catagory of movies that are easy to like because they are made up of fail-safe ingrediants that will make dumb college-age guys love it. Movies you can buy posters of at Tower Records, you know. It's one of those movies that appear on FAVORITE MOVIES LIST next to the word "etc" because they aren't so much FAVORITE MOVIES LIST as just "i like this type of bullshit because I'm cool and I just want to let you know that" lists. I completley understand.

Ah. The Big Lebowski is not at all a status-symbol sort of thing in my area. But I guess last year, when almost every guy in my class thought that seeing, or as in most cases, pretending to see "Clockwork Orange" made them super badass it got extremely annoying. Especially because they wouldn't shut up about it for like four months. :|

I'm by no means embarassed by it (though some people have told me I should be), but I love action movies with absurd plots. Well, I guess all action movies are absurd for the most part, but some of them go above and beyond. Movies like "Con Air" and "The Rock" entertain me to no end.

What more could you want , under seige has a coked up gary busey who probably thinks whats going on around him is real and tommy lee jones at the bad guy. Its a shame that the good old fashioned action movies like True Lies, and Die Hard arent around anymore people expect everything but mind numbing fun from cinema these days.

I'm in the utmost agreeance with xbxDaniel about Saints. Coneheads was awesome, one of Chris Farley's better roles (and by better I mean better than BH Ninja). What's wrong with Lock, Stock? You should watch Problem Child again. It's pretty good. The sequel, I will agree, was terrible. I didn't know that people who like Super Mario Brothers existed. The soundtrack is pretty kick ass however. Though I have a distast for Hugh Grant too, I have to admit that I laughed my ass off at parts of Nine Months.
I fucking hated Anchorman! I'm not starting a fight, because I tend to when I say that, but that movie was the most meaningless piece of monkey dribble I've ever seen. I'll admit I laughed at one or two parts (Steve Carell is hilarious) but other than said one or two chuckles I got angry at how bored I was. Fuck Will Ferrell.

HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL caused me a lot of pain in high school:
I saw that in theaters and re-evaluated my friendship with friends who thought it was weird that I hated it. THEY DIDN'T HAVE STRONG OPINIONS ABOUT LIKING IT AT ALL, THEY JUST THOUGHT IT WAS WEIRD THAT I DIDN'T FIND IT PASSABLE. This pain was good for me.
I trashed the movie every chance I got, and then a girl I was in love with broke a date with me to hang out with another guy that she would later date (instead of dating me, you see). I was heartbroken, but then just unbeleivably angry when she told me she broke the date to watch HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL with him. We both misplaced our emotions in the same place: I yelled at her for betraying me by seeing a movie that I had so clearly told her stunk, basically disguising our REAL argument as an arguement about a movie.

I'm not actually embarrassed by Tank Girl, it's just that so many people that liked the comic, hate the movie (i love them both).
One more movie i like: Starship Troopers 2. It isn't as good the first one was, but it still pretty amusing movie. It has some cool gore moments, suspense and great new enemy. :love

I've never seen Cars but otherwise I also like all the Pixar movies. I also like the old Disney musicals; Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King. Aladdin's probably my favorite of the bunch. I like Musicals in general, a good musical is probably the greatest form of entertainment there is to me. That's kinda of embarrassing.

I liked 1408 kind of because I thought that if they had cut out almost everything about his family that it would've been a decent movie. Also if they would've had some more scary stuff!
Also i thought that the whole family thing sucked but that it was necessary for the plot and I think the point of the movie was kind of him actually discovering proof of ghosts!

The closest thing to "ashamed" I can come to is that I like a movie most people my age wouldn't understand why I like.
On Golden Pond, it was a movie starring Katherine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, and Jane Fonda about a father and daughter's strained relationship and the fear of growing old. Well acted, but most people either haven't heard of it for some reason or just don't get it because it is all drama and no action.

I really like 80's fantasy movies like Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Willow, The NeverEnding Story and Legend, but i never tell anybody. They make me feel uncertain about my sexuality. Especially Labyrinth.
Also, showing The Rocky Horror Picture Show to some of my friends last fall made me really nervous, but thankfully they all loved it.

Not sure what about Labyrinth makes you question your sexuality.
Legend would make me ashamed though. Not because it made me question my sexuality, but because it offended at least two of my senses, possibly more, though I am not sure, I tried blocking out the memory that I watched it :lol

My mom first forced me into watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show when I was 4. It sort of grew on me. I feel your pain....
However, I would never be ashamed to admit liking the FIRST Neverending Story. I got the fuckin theme song on my MP3 player... ( AS well as Dance Magic from Labyrinth... )
Willow was simply funny. Golden age of midgets. Ha.

My entire movie collection. I'm embarrassed, but not really. Highlights include:
Buffy movie, Cursed, Earth Girls Are Easy, Eight-Legged Freaks, Little Monsters (my fave childhood movie), My Boyfriend's Back, Once Bitten, Teen Sorcery, and Transylvania 6-5000.
Honorable mention goes to Magic Island and Clifford because I do not own them but I do love them. WHO WOULDN'T LOVE THE KID FROM "HOME IMPROVEMENT" DEFEATING A SAND SHARK WITH BUBBLE GUM WHILE HIDING OUT IN A PIZZA TREE?!?!?!

Maciste All'Inferno, the Riccardo Freda version. This one is known to English audiences as The Witch's Curse. My cinematic taste is normally impeccable; so why do I like Kirk Morris stripped to his ancient Greek underwear straining against phallic symbols in Scotland and Hell?

I'm a sucker for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". But I want to watch it in sequence.
I've had the first 3 seasons for about a year. I tried watching a few episodes from season 7, and i had no idea what was going on.
Anyways, I joined Columbia House AGAIN, and I should get seasons 4 and 5 in about a week.
I'm now awaiting peeps to call me a nerd

I watched Juno tonight and enjoyed it. I find this a little embarrassing. Good movie - nominated for Oscars and shit - but it was so very sappy. Normally not my kind of thing, but that lead actress is such a cutie..and the way they portrayed her family was somewhat charming. Warmed my cynical heart a few degrees.

Man I like a lot of dumb/lame movies:
Clueless
Zoolander
Moulin Rouge
Little Women
Sense & Sensibility (other than Kate Winslet's god-awful hair of course)
all the X-Men movies
I like everything Miyazaki does and I like a lot of other anime, it seems childish and embarassing to admit that though :lol
Not too embarrassed though. So what I if I have odd tastes?
Scoody Doo on Zombie Island :(
Haha I remember that movie! Had it when I was a little kid.

Tell me about it. I tried to watch season four of Angel before I'd seen any of it and couldn't figure out why everyone was essentially the same character and how they related to each other.
Definitely watch all of the series. Seasons 1-5 are the best television ever, 6 and 7 not so much.

Yeah, I get mocked every now and then for having a couple seasons of that. It was seriously such an awesome show though :(. I got seasons 2 and 3 years ago and I'd planned to get season 1, 4, and 5 and then just pretend the show ended there, but I never got around to it.
