And Freakshow seems a lot like a skit from T.V. Funhouse.

I didn't give Freakshow a chance so I have no clue if it sucks or not. It just didn't look like it'd be good so I didn't watch it. Maybe it's golden.
South Park continues to make me laugh and when it doesn't hit the marks perfectly, it still ends up being entertaining to watch. It's hit or miss sometimes I guess but I can honestly say I have never actually disliked a episode.
Once I heard that Blizzard was all for this I was a little worried but their collaboration didn't take away from the shots they took at the gamers.

Mystery of the Urinal Deuce
Original air Date: 2006-10-11
The world’s biggest conspiracy of all time will finally be uncovered when Eric Cartman exposes the true culprit behind the September 11th attacks. An attempted assassination in South Park means no one is safe from the people who are the real brains behind the 9/11 conspiracy. When Kyle and Stan hit the road in search of the truth, they come face-to-face with the masterminds who pulled off the most elaborate, intricate and flawlessly executed operation in American history..

The show sucked, and knowing Comedy Central, they'll keep renewing it season after season just like Drawn Together, while shows like Strangers With Candy and Stella get shunned altogether. If it weren't for the Daily Show, Colbert Report, and South Park, Comedy Central would be one of the worst fucking channels on TV right now.

Oct 10th, 2006, 03:35 AM
Uh you are kinda understating how incredible it is for a cable channel to have that many good shows on it (very).
Comedy Central has always mostly sucked, just like EVERY FUCKING CABLE CHANNEL IN EXISTANCE. The good stuff accumulates in your brain so you get this delusional bullshit that IT USED TO BE SO MUCH BETTER when more or less, it's always sucked just as much. Even when Comedy Central was playing MST3K and Kids in the Hall all the time, I'm sure there were tons of forgetable shows and awful movies polluting it's airwaves. Comedy Central has shitcanned a lot of great shows, but at least they give them a chance. And you know what? They've shitcanned a lot of SHITTY shows too. So auuugh just shut up you people are just all trying to be all I'M CYNICAL ABOUT HOW THINGS WORK AND I KNOW ABOUT HOW EVERYTHING WORKS WAH WAH uugyhaghoghaodhga shut up

I DISAGREE. Since I watched alot of comedy central in that era you spoke of, Comedy Central was alot better in the past then it is now. For the simple fact alone that it used show SNL 20 times a day then and it now shows MADTV 20 times a day.
BUT I DO agree that Comedy Central is in no way close to the worse channel on television, not when G4 and Spike TV exist. As far as cable goes, Comedy Central is on top because at least it still shows standup like it was intended to and didn't go all MTV with it's original programming.
And they didn't shun Strangers with Candy and Stella, THOSE SHOWS DID NOT GET RATINGS, if it's anybody's fault it's the viewers. The viewers who love jumping girls on trampolines and fag jokes.

So, i'm not supposed to watch the shows that make me laugh because you think they're too lowbrow? What the fuck is on comedy central right now that's THAT good anyway? Shows like SWC and UCB don't gain a large cult following until they get cancelled, so if anything else you should be thanking people like me for making shows go off the air and driving up fan requests to the point of DVDs and boxed sets and movies getting released. So you can sit there and shriek in an irrational rage when Drawn Together and Freak Show come on, and i'll watch them and laugh my ass off and have inifintely more fun than you will.

Are you referring to Beth Ostroski? (pardon me for a very likely butchered spelling) Meh, she's alright if she stays to her FHM columns. Speaking of FHM, Morgan Webb handles the games section, oddly enough. She's lovely.

Yeah, G4 and Spike TV sure are the worst channels on TV! Yup, I'd rather watch Bravo then UFC matches or shows about video games. Yup. :rolleyes Or how about that awsome Food Network? Eh? Eh?
Jixby Phillips
Oct 21st, 2006, 04:48 PM
Well thats true for me anyway
Bravo was great when they showed Twin Peaks and Larry Sanders reruns. Now theres too many queers, and you know me and queers just don't get along, I am definately not gay like them.
Spike TV occasionally has amazingly great action movies. I constantly get sucked into an Andy Sidaris movie at 2 AM or some really stupid hong kong action movie.
G4 is completely not my cup-of-tea because I hate videogames, so even if it were a GOOD video game channel, I wouldn't even know to appreciate it. BUT I do like that it shows Arrested Devolopment, because my TIVO will automatically turn to it and copy it to my RECCOMENDED VIEWING list, which means I occasionally get to turn on my TV and see it on. It's nice :(
My favorite channel is a local one here that just constantly shows old educational programs around the clock I guess to be taped by teachers for use in the classroom. It's like when your teacher would show you a great educational video and you'd wish to god you could get a copy of it? THIS CHANNEL IS THAT 24 HOURS A DAY.
There's also another local station that plays a logo bumper constantly (not just between each show, but also between EACH COMMERCIAL) and old public domain popeye shorts because they can't get many advertisers. They show really obscure syndicated programming. You think it's a religious channel beacsue it kinda has the aesthetics of one, but it really isn't. Everything they show is slightly creepy and somewhat unsettling.
Those might be my favorite channels!
This should be a seperate thread.

It makes sense though, if the point they were making was that HIV can now be treated effectively, but only if you have a lot of money for the medication. Which is absolutely no help to the people that really need the treatment.
The other related thing I think they were trying to get across was now that HIV can be treated, a lot of funding has been moved to cancer research despite many third-world countries desperately needing a cheap, effective HIV treatment.
Overall though, I'm not sure it was a particularly lampoon-worthy a subject. A lot of money still is being spent on HIV research and drugs are always expensive. There really isn't that much which can be done beyond continuing with the research and hoping that a more cost effective solution will turn up.

Yeah, tell me about it. It almost made me cry in joy a couple of times, 'cause Heavy Metal has been one of my favourite movies since i saw it the first time when i was like ten years old. Because you are a poser. I collected the magazine ever since I was a child. You? You became a fan of Dio because of the movie. Enemy.

J. Tithonus Pednaud
Mar 28th, 2008, 11:00 PM
Right, that's what the episode was poking fun at. That fermented shit thing (JenKem, Butthash, etc) is a complete hoax that shows up every few years. But even law enforcement are often taken in and the story spreads again. The South Park episode is likely based on a true event. Some police officer got an entire town riled up when he passed along the hoax email to members of the PTA and it climbed through the calling trees.
Cheesing is a hoax too by the way. Back in my day we would get people at parties to drink cat piss (people piss usually) or eat litter by telling them it would get them high. Obviously the South Park boys did the same to people or at least heard the urban legend too. I haven't heard of it in years.
I am envisioning idiots across North America huffing cat piss right now and I bet the 'cat piss' will be the most popular search term on google this week - and I'm laughing. I bet the South Park boys are doing the same.
Brilliant.

I don't think South Park paid proper homage to Heavy Metal. In my eyes, they just threw it in there and it had nothing to do with the story. That part of the show wasn't even funny to me. They could have done sooooo much more with a drug trip, but instead they, they referenced Heavy Metal. Big fucking whoopty doo! It was an insult to Heavy Metal by way of nothing funny coming from it.
J. Tithonus Pednaud
Mar 29th, 2008, 03:08 AM
I thought the Heavy Metal bits were brilliant for a bunch of reasons. First and foremost was how with each visit the breast imagery was more and more evident, even slipping into the dialog and landscapes.
I found it hilarious because I know when I first started buying Heavy Metal, it was because I was too young to buy real dirt mags. It wasn't until later that I developed an artistic eye and could appreciate the stories. Also, as good as the mag was, the movie was pretty much about tits and ass.
Except for the Zombie Bomber story...that was just all about the awesome.
So, it was like the creators were nodding to all that. Maybe it was the first time I could actually relate to the kids in South Park. I was one of those kids oogling cartoon boobies.

I've been watching a bunch of older episodes on http://www.southparkstudios.com, and I really used to like Cartman a lot more when he actually acted like a dumb, naive 8-year-old who was just an asshole because he didn't know any better. Now he's a diabolical psuedo-genius who is just an asshole in a way that a young kid isn't. Not that I'm complaining that the show is less believable or whatever, but Cartman being an asshole because of stupidity and little-kid-selfishness was a lot funnier to me than Cartman being an asshole because of hate.
Randy Marsh is my new favorite character now, and the funny thing is as his character develops he acts more and more like he's 8-years old.

Randy: Stan's little league game, I'm... I'm not gonna go.
Sharon: Why?
Randy: I just... don't think I can, all right?
Sharon: You don't think you can?! This is the biggest game of your son's life! Why wouldn't you go and support him? What-? [Randy rises and faces her]
Randy: Because I'm scared, all right?! [Sharon stays quiet] You wanna break me down?! You wanna hear me say it?! I'm scared! I don't know if I believe in myself anymore. [turns away and bows his head] I don't know if I can take this guy, Sharon.
Sharon: So then, don't. You don't have to get in fights with other parents at Little League games! Just sit there and watch!
Randy: Look, I get what you're trying to do. You're trying to get me to realize that I have to fight him because it's who I am.
Sharon: No, I'm telling you you don't have to get thrown out of games and make an ass of yourself.
Randy: I've lost the edge. I'm sorry, Sharon. But you have to take Stan to his Little League game alone. [walks off]
