I'm more of a Jazz guy and enjoyed the Ken Burns Documentary...you can really see how Blues influence Jazz. PBS has a documentary series
http://www.pbs.org/theblues/ there are lists of Musicians.

This is my first post, and I intend to make it a worthwhile one.
Check out Son House. He's my favorite, plus he literally bitch slaps the strings when he plays. That and he lived forever.
Also Lightning Hopkins is good. He's the king of the jive talking bluesmen.
If you get a chance check out The Missisppi Sheiks and Tampa Red. They have a different style, but they're still good. It has some jazz influence.
Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed and my favorite electric bluesman, Hound Dog Taylor.
If you like harmonica, check out Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Junior Wells.
That should get you started.
