70,000 copies sold in Japan?! I didn't think that many 360's existed there. So, anybody know anything about it?

Well, Its no suprise that the game is a hit there. With it being made by Hironobu Sakaguchi (the Guy who created Final Fantasy) and with characters designed by Akira Toriyama.

See, a while back, Sakaguchi left SquareEnix to form his own company with funding from microsoft (Partly because of SquareEnixes decision to radically change the direction of The Franchise he Created starting with Final Fantasy X). He also Enlisted the Skills of Nobou Uematsu (Arguably one of the Best Videogame Composers ever) to create this game. And with the japanese gaming market being RPG centered, the way you conquer the market is to get the best RPG's you can get (Why The PS2 beat all others in asian markets while the Xbox did nothing over there).
