View Full Version : Pokemon Gold/Silver internal batteries last six years

Yes I like my copy of Pokemon Silver ok shut up >:
But I decided to pop it in today and notice my save file deleted. I started a new game because I was going to anyway, and decided to save after five minutes and pick it up later. I come back and my save file is gone again. >:
So I check online and notice a bunch of people are having the same problem, and it's all the cartridge's internal battery's fault. The goddamned thing runs out of juice in six years >:
Now they say the only way to fix it is to buy a new copy, but new copies don't exactly exist anymore. And I don't want to buy a used copy because, since they're all used, they probably have the exact same problem. >:
I don't know how many Gameboy games were made with internal batteries but I'm getting all paranoid now about it. >:
I'm such a fag for liking Pokemon Silver I know, but if there are any other fags out there like me then I'm doing them favor by making this thread :(

Did you expect the battery to last forever? :lol
If the game was made better, it would have used a small amount of Flash ROM, but at the time, it would have made the cartridge like $200.

I bought a used nes legend of zelda gold cartidge a couple of years ago. The battery was already dead. :(

No you're giving me too much credit. I didn't even know there was a battery in the cartridge. :x
Of course when I thought about it afterwards I realized something must be keeping the game clock running. :(

You might be able to replace the battery. I dunno though. Ive never heard of an internal battery for a game cartridge.

Or you could buy the game again, probably for less then doing something Stupid suggests.

Mine still works. The save is still there after all this time. This thread made me start a new game, though.
Maybe it's the 7 trips through the washing machine that keeps it working.

every game where you have to hold reset when you turn the power off on NES has one, for starters
unless you meant that you've never heard of them being for sale, in which case me neither

if you wanted to change the battery is it possible without losing the save anyway?

yes you can change the battery but the saved file would be erased.

A simple "no" would have been better than that trainwreck of an answer.

ROMS!
Yeah, I had always thought about this but I never did it because I assumed the internal clock wouldn't work on a ROM while the game isn't played.
I downloaded it today and it turns out it does work! :o
