I never really thought that there were any scares in that game. Isn't it just for the most part guys shooting at you, and maybe one or two cheap headcrab attacks?
Also, don't play System Shock 2.

System Shock 2 is probably the scariest, creepiest game i have ever played. :(
But it's damn good.

Also, don't play Thief. Lotta creepy levels there. And skip Thief 3, too. Shalebridge was downright unnerving.

i've never played half-life so i can't attest to how scary it is but i'm totally in your corner for this one james
i'm such a pansy when there's scary stuff in video games. it's sad

Don't bother playing conker's bad fur day while you're not playing scary games. David could never get past the zombie squirrels 'cause of the freak factor.

the scariness sort of peters out towards the end, if i remember right
sort of the same with ss2, but the overall creepiness level stays pretty consistent up until the endgame in that one

James, I only bought HL to play CS originally, but I eventually did try the 1 player campaign. First time I played it I couldn't figure out what to do (don't ask)
Second time I played it I figured out what to do, but the fucking aliens made me quit playing! IDK man I never even got out of the base or anything lol I was too frightened to figure out what to do next :/

i haven't played it but according to jerkipedia
Although the first few missions are typical "rob a rich guy's mansion" levels, the latter 2/3s of the game takes place largely in monster-infested ruins where the player is pitted against various zombies, beasts, and inhuman creatures.

I hated the original half-life specifically because of the platforming.
I liked Opposing Force, though ;< If only for the monkey wrench.

I could not wait to get the hell out of there. Crazy ghost shenanigans and the only level where I had problems.

Half-Life is one of the easiest FPS games ever made. Nut up and finish that game properly, James.
BTW, if you shit your pants over some of the things in HL, don't play HL2.

Playing that stuff on the hardest mode was, uh, hard. I'm pretty sure there's a part in a wide open area where it's impossible to get through without bunnyhopping. Also, the giant tentacle in the chamber scared the shit out of me. CLANG CLANG CLANG.
DuFresne
Jan 19th, 2007, 05:14 PM
I still play HL quite a bit, but I have for years, so I know where all the scary shit is scripted to be. After you get about halfway through the game, the scares do pretty much stop and the game becomes more about "OMG how the hell are you gonna get past something THIS damn huge," or "WTF SO MANY ENEMIES!!!111."
I think you'll agree with me that the first half of the game is a bit better crafted than the second after you've played the whole thing. Half-Life to me should be more about that "what's around the next corner" tension (ala old DOOM) rather than simple combat highs.

I reccomend that james stay the fuck away from opposing force. There is a monster in there that will actually start eating your corpse after you're dead, which I just found to be completely god damn fucked.

In HL2 the black spider crabs were so fucking scary. The sound they made while skittering on the ground was terrifying, the long hairy legs were creepy, and the sound they made right before an attack was horrifying.

Speaking of Half-Life I always got sacred when I had to go underwater and that big fucking fish beast was waiting for me.
In fact I get kinda nervous anytime in any game where I have to go underwater. I think its a mental thing because when I was really little I almost drowned like a million times. In the tub, in the pool, in a lake etc. :(

I get nervous in underwater segments of games because they, as a rule of nature, suck more than the rest of the game.

fuck under water, if you've ever played everquest and FALLEN OFF THE BOAT in the wrong ocean you were not only left swimming for 30 minutes to an hour, you also had the chance of a sea monster killing your guy and leaving your corpse in the MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN
(have fun finding it ;p)
very scary :(
They thought it would be funny to put high level monsters in the water :/ It wasn't :(

Noob, I remember playing Everquest on my old, OLD piece of shit computer with a 56k connection and I was on a boat and after a 30 hour load pause I see the boat sailing off into the distance as I fall into the water. :(
Yeah that was the worst. I really started hating that game after that.
noob3
Jan 21st, 2007, 02:48 PM
haha, dude that use to happen to me too! even if i managed to stay on the boat, while i was bored and running around the lower levels of the boat, id always FALL RIGHT OUT OF THE WALL :( apparently they thought it would be awesome to make the wall just look like a wall and if you walked up to it youd fall out :/
but you must be thinking of ocean of tears, there was sharks in the water but not the sea dragon thing in the ocean you got to from Oasis ( i forgot the name )
very scary :o

Getting Back on Topic.
James, You shouldnt play HL2. If the First one scares you, you cant handle the Ravenholm area of that game. Its the only actually scary part i have encountered so far (I only play it once in a while now) while the rest of the game is just plain Intense.

How is HL scary? Seriously.
It may be that I'm completely desensitized, but, I don't know.
One of the only things that freaked me out about that game was walking along, and all of a sudden getting murdered out of nowhere.
WELL...THAT, and whenever GMan popped up out of nowhere.

It's fun to take the crowbar and try to kill 2 of them before you drown/ are eaten.

The dogs coming in when you tried to open the front doors freaked me out in Resident Evil. The stuff that jumps out at you sometimes freaks me out in games like that.

I see 3 people on this page that need to be banned, and they're pretty much all against each other. Honestly, I don't know which is worse though. I'm leaning towards gw because while the other two are insanely annoying, at least they're not acting like "LOL u guys caught me im a weird, sick fuck but im gonna act like nothing happened and make fun of everyone that u guys do".
Well, zelda does that last part too.

The very fact that you're still using that name shows that you're still fucked up. Also, it's pretty clear that you wish you were a real woman and had chojin's seed in you. That or you're just clinging to someone who you hope will help everyone forget what a fuck up you are.
You stopped acting like that a month ago? So you go from pretending to be an annoying girl seeking attention and acceptance to an annoying boy doing the same thing, and now you're trying something new? You're just an amalgamation of every annoying, dumb fuck 16 year old who wants to be part of any kind of group and will act however they think will get them accepted. I get just as annoyed from the rest of the retards around here who do that, but they never masqueraded as a girl.
