What happens to the Kurds now?

For the past ten years, Kurdistan has been a defacto free state, closer to what we supposedly want in the Middle East than any of our current allies in the region accepting Israel.

Will there now be a Kurdistan in reality? Kurds are the most populous people without a country, there are many more Kurds in the world than Palestinians, and a Palestinian state is on the table.

If the Kurds should NOT have their own state in Northern Iraq, why not? The US promised Turkey yesterday we would remove the Kurds from Kirkuk, a town they took as indigenous people rebelling against the ruling Baath party, supposedly the sort of thing we've supported all along.

They definitely should get their own state.

When you've got a country like Iraq with so many ethnic groups that dont necessarily get along with each other, its probably best to let them make their own countrys. That way they can all live however they please. As long as you make it fair so theres no resentment between the groups.

probably one Kurd state and one state for the rest of Iraq might be the way in this case.
