View Full Version : Worst game you've ever played?

I don't mean just seen; the worst you've actually experienced for yourself. For me, it's Hydlide, hands down. Call me sheltered if you want, but I do NOT need an 8-bit dungeon crawler that simultaneously rapes my eyes and my ears. That maddening theme song will be the last thing ringing through my ears as I leave this world, I swear to god. Does this game even have a point? Is it even possible to win? Has any human being ever subjected themselves to its sheer terror for more than five minutes at a time and lived to tell the tale? In a way, I don't want to know.

Back to the Future for the NES. So much potential, but the developers decide to make it into some sort of bench jumping/pie throwing sim.

Illusion of gaia for SNES.
Not being one to brag, that I'm some awesome female gamer. I don't tend to try and use it as a pick up line, unless of course I'm trying to hit in my friends little brother, which doesn't happen often, they at least have to be legal. But, this game made me throw the controller at the screen so many times when It first came out, I believe I was around 12, not too sure of that, though so don't quote me.
I never did beat it, after the 393439 billionth time, of ending up stuck in the SAME PLACE; I just said fuck it!
So, to all you fuckers who have beat it out there, go to hell. I hate you!

Sonic the Hedgehog for Xbox 360.
Seriously, it was SO FUCKING BAD.
I used to love Sonic, even on the Dreamcast. And I even thought Shadow the Hedgehog was pretty fun. But this was just GODAWFUL. Cost me £50 and it took me 14 tries to get through the first level just from so many bugs, falling through floors, getting hurt by checkpoints, freezeups, et cetera. And even without the bugs and the stupid 30 second loading times (3 times in each level, about 5-6 times inbetween levels just to load up like 2 lines of dialog at a time!) it would still be a crap game.
So bad.

sonic is pretty damn bad, not sure about worst, but the stupidest game i have ever played has to be 'Demolition girl' a PS2 game in which a bikini model becomes Godzilla sized and starts attacking cities, and you have to stop her using helicopters and tanks and perform tasks like scanning her boobs and shooting her with giant needles

Rune: Viking Warlord. As generic as you can get, bad controls, dull gameplay, shitty gameplay, with THE worst multiplayer ever to grace a console.
Thats funny. I have the PC version and i think its awesome. Its only drawback is that it was built off of the Unreal Tournament engine (right down to the controls) but it was still a fun game. Decapitating viking Zombies never gets old. And the Levels are fun to run around in.
But the Worst video game i have ever played. Its The Art of Fighting. That game is horrible. The controls are crap, the enemies are cheap and Only 2 Damn fighters to choose from. At least Fatal Fury (released sometime earlier) had 3 characters to choose from. And i would be more forgiving of a bad game if the sequel fixed these problems so I could forget about the first one (Street Fighter), but they only reinforced the crap gameplay and fixed nothing except the fighter count. Art of Fighting is pure Shit.

i cant think of worst games off the tip of my head, i can think of ones that disappointed meh greatly though. pitfighter for the snes i purchased for full retail when i was lil, i know even its source material was weak, but i thought itd be at least as good as the genesis version. but insteads, they took out the weapons, crowd interactions and some of enemy fitars. all that was left was two similar lookin people trading similar lookin punches, kinda like urban champion but without the excitement of flowerpots and manholes. i cried for real and learned a valuable lesson about the value of a dollar.
also nightmare creatures 2. i was a big fan of the first and played the hell out of it, it had unlockables secrats an fun hidden paths an tons of secrat attak combos an i liked it a lot :> the sequel though.. had one character. with one combo. loads of bugs and missing textures an animations, flying thru ceilings, falling through floors. it stank of rushed out crap :< the fact that i played it so much trying to imagine it had some redeeming value made it that much worse.
illusion of gaia i thought was pretty entertaining. i never defeated the evil jeweler guy SOLIDARM, but you dint need to kills him to beat the game

I want to SUMMER OLYMPICS for the Sega Genesis. Awful Controls for awful events no one cares about. But maybe I am a little biased.
I want to say E.T., because we had it and it was terrible. But we played it enough that it wasn't so bad that we stopped right away. Same goes for another favorite for worse games list, Superman 64.
I want to say Donkey Kong Country 3, I mean replacing Donkey and Diddy with a fucking Baby was the dumbest idea since adding bad guitars to Prince of Persia (when adding guitars to anything is usually a good idea). Not to mention the pointless addition of boating to level area to level area. (SOUNDS LIKE WIND WAKER HUH? Shutup, I liked that game :()
I'm going to have to say Ballz for sega. I turned it off after 5 minutes of play. Terribly excuse for graphics, all the environments looked the same, awful music with even worse sound effects, stupid shit happening on the background, and terribly bad controls that frustrated me to hell. I know it was a game that didn't try to take itself serious, but it's not even good for a free download game, every aspect of the game was brought down to the lowest common denominator. It was as if there were trying to make a 3D fighting game and used those as models but then hit a wall and found out they couldn't do any better with Sega's capabilities, so they scrapped whatever idea they originally had for this shit. That's the logical idea I have of the game existed, the other it was made by one adult retard being egged on my 12 5-year olds (and their dalmation puppy).
There might be worse games out there, but Ballz is a game I hate like no other. I hate it like I hate Carlos Mencia, Racism, Terrorist, or Father Spaz.

I completely have to agree with gadzooks, with Donkey Kong Country 3. Diddy was cool, especially for certain areas. Even the Random animals you could ride throughout the game were neat, but how much more shit needs to be added?

It was an amazing game but the camera angles they used made it easily the most terrible game in existence. magmax was a top down shooter, right? with like a pixely little mech ship deal on nes? i played that every time i went to my cousin's house, i always forgot how bad it sucked
it was a side-scrolling shooter where the stated goal was to collect all the parts of your space-ship and turn it into a mech that amounted to nothing more than a really tall, easily shot space-ship. then you're supposed to kill this space dragon thing to beat the game but if you kill him you just keep going until it loops back to the beginning and you run into the dragon again, effectively accomplishing nothing.
the looping thing was annoying and what was worse is it only takes about 3 minutes to progress through the entire game before you're back at the beginning. it's not even like pac-man or something where you keep doing the same levels but they get harder. it's exactly the same no matter how many times you loop through it. plus it's super ugly.

My bad. Bionic Commando. Not really one of the worst games ive ever played but the bionic claw, as I recall, was useless for dodging bullets (jumping would be more usefull in this game).

Whenever you chose a date on the time machine that was wrong or something you had to do a little surfing game where you had to collect 10 mushrooms or something :S
Then you fell into a whirlpool when you just couldn't take it anymore and went back to the time machine

Am I the only one who has subjected himself to the horror that is Awesome Possum? I mean, when I was 4, I willingly rented Bubsy, and I still thought AP was utter shit.
Games like Gilligan's Island and X-Men for NES don't count. Those aren't even remotely playable.
I'd put Final Fight: Streetwise up there. Shit graphics, bad controls, annoying voices, and no Haggar.

Hard-pressed to say exactly what's the worst, as I played a lot of shitty games, but I got three I'm confident take the title.

Pokemon Snap: For being a worthless game with this printing stickers gimmick that lasted all of a month.

This thread reminds me of what a poster said on my site.
Simon's Quest is not only the single worst Castlevania game all time, it's in probably the top 10 or 20 worst games ever made for a home console.
That one really made me laugh.
Anyway, for me it's really hard to pick the worst game ever. I mean if the game is terrible, I won't play it. Unless I'm playing it because it's bad but that'll mean I'm probably having a good time... I don't know. Games have cluttered my mind. I do find some of these choices amusing though.

I think I will this time although FF discussions really get old.
FF7 to FF/RPG fans before release: SUPER HYPE! OMG! IT'S NOT ON THE ULTRA 64!!
FF7 to Non-RPG fans: OMG!! COOL!! What is Final Fantasy? 7??!
FF7 at release: AWESOME GAME! GREAT STORY! GREAT CHARACTERS! COOL GRAPHICS!
FF7 now: BOOO! I ALWAYS HATED THAT GAME! BOOO!
Anyway. Say what you will about FF7 but if you don't attach some stigma to it you should be able to see at least what it accomplished. While it brought in many fans that annoyed me to the RPG scene it also boosted the genre in popularity here at American shores almost single handedly.
Personally I think it was a good addition to the series. The series went a different route after that but oh well, there's plenty of games.

I thought Terminator 2: Judgement Day (the Genesis port of the side-scroller)was a lot more fun and challenging (well , at least that 3rd driving secuence) than Bionic Commando, and that game was deemed movie-based-game poison. Sorry, but I deny Bionic Commando's right to exist.

Apr 7th, 2007, 09:03 PM
Im just saying that wasnt fun, the multiple paths made it more confusing, having to use a a claw to go from platform to platform is cumbersome and slow, and I regret spending $4 thinking that it was a "classic" game. Also, I already stated earlier that I had exagerated when I said it was the "worst" game ever.

lol. Anyways, I agree with you about FFVII. Although I think the story in the game hasnt faired quite as well as the SNES games, and some aspects of the game haven't aged well, it made a huge impact. The whole anti- Final Fantasy VII craze going around is a tad rediculous.

I played it once through and gave it its proper chance because I've always enjoyed its soundtrack, but it's too easy to whore out any character with Materia and make them godlike. I dislike newer FF games that only allow you to use three superpowered characters, as opposed to four slightly weaker characters (unless you overlevel). I don't know why; I like FFIV's idea of five characters best, and I'm OK with the four characters that the other pre-FFVII games give you.
I'm also not a terribly huge fan of its story. I feel like "Oh no, genetic experimentation and pollution are bad!" has been way overused in sci-fi settings, which is what FFVII really is if you think about it. I guess it was kind of a unique turn for the series, but I didn't enjoy it that much. It warranted one play-through (mostly because I wanted to hear what the final boss battle was, but I was sorely disappointed; Bizarro Sephiroth has a much cooler theme song), but nothing more than that.
