View Full Version : Playing Playstation 1 games on my PC?
Mockery

Is there any good way to do this? I seem to remember a while ago there being some software that did this but I figure by now there's probably something that works better. I have a bunch of old PS1 games that I'd love to play again (and take screenshots of for some articles at some point), but I'd like to be able to play 'em on my PC.

I remember something about a gizmo that was supposed to do it, until the creators got sued into oblivion... if it was ever on store shelves, you could probably track down a copy.

When I tried a PSX emulator I had to actually have a physical copy of the game to play off of. Does this one work this way?
Also if that's not the case can someone please direct me to a FFT download

i havent used a psx emulator in several years, epsxe was the one i used back then. initial setup, especially finding a gfx plugin you can live with is pretty annoying. also no two games seem to work exactly right with the same settings, it takes a lot of fiddling. in the end though, you can increase the res way high an makes the games looks tons better, and if you run games from an iso then it totally cuts out almost all the load time.

The emulator ePSXe can play the games straight from the disk. I've never tried it personally, but the ISOs work fine so I'm assuming they wouldn't crap out there. Unless I am mistaken I think they still update the program so I'm pretty sure they will be able to support what you need.
Heads up though, it's a good idea (and I think required) to get plugins for the emulator, regardless of what you are playing from. I've read that the "Mooby2 cd disk image driver 2.8" works well, and I have it installed (never used)... All in all, some games require a bit of tweaking (example, I can't play SOTN the same way I play Silent Hill)
For video I would suggest "Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.8" but then again I'm getting ahead of myself.
Long story short, use ePSXe.

I use ePSXe. A few years ago I tried tons of them and ePSXe was by far the easiest and most properly working one.

If you need help getting a game to work just search epsxe compatability and it will tell you what you need to get it to work.

I used to use Bleem and Virtual Game Station :< But the first was way buggy and the latter only played in native resolution.

Thanks for the tips, I'll have to give ePSXe a try. And to answer your question, YES I will be playing these games off the original Playstation discs. I *really* want to play Loaded cuz it's been too long.
