Somebody had to make a fucking movie thread on this. This should be bigger than that Silent Hill thread made a year ago. I'm totally stoked about this and confident that it will be better than the second movie.

I'm pumped for this, especialy since all the scenes Ive seen so far with sandman, and New Goblin are in a construction site, so I'm hoping that it ends with a massive Spidey vs Venom vs new goblin vs sandman brawl

It looks like theyre trying to put as many Villians in this one as possible. Venom should have Gotten his own film.

Protoclown
May 2nd, 2007, 01:34 PM
Venom doesn't have enough character depth to carry an entire film. I think they're doing this wisely, with Venom appearing in the final third of the movie. Beyond looking cool, he's not really a very interesting or compelling character so they should use him sparingly. I'd say the most interesting villain in the 3rd movie is the second Green Goblin.

yes I am definatley psyched for the dramatic entrance of the new green goblin/bad ass sandman fights/the teaser venom bits :(

im going to totally agree with proto on the fact that venom shouldn't have his own film!

I hope this one won't blow like the last one. S2 was the first movie I ever thought of walking out of.

Girl Drink Drunk

Yeah. After getting excited about comics again watching the first movie (with Peter discovering all his abilities, the action scenes, and the feel of the whole movie), I thought Peter Parker losing all his powers, and his social life stagnating was kind of a downer and not as fun or balanced as the first (at least the ending was better).

Protoclown
May 3rd, 2007, 12:18 AM
I totally disagree with you guys. I thought the second movie was FAR superior to the first. It's because of Peter Parker and the horrible mess he's made of his personal life that makes Spider-Man so interesting to me in the first place, so I like that the second movie focused more on Peter than on Spider-Man. I expect the third movie will strike a good balance of Peter and Spidey and will no doubt be the best of the three.

I took a nap for about ten minutes only to find that I hadn't missed anything.

When I saw the first movie, I was like, "Hell yeah! Spiderman!" At the second one, I wondered, "Wait, why does Doc Ock have to die?" and "I want to see more Bruce Campbell." I want Sam Raimi to be done with Spiderman so he can work on Evil Dead.

I guess Spiderman 2 just wasn't my movie. I hope the third will be.

Another beef: Why does Mysterio get the cold shoulder? Not that he's any better than any other villian.

I've had to endure too many Spiderman 3 commercials...I know whats going to happen and the villian is the guy from some crappy sitcom? Nothing in this movie will blow you away or have any kind of plot or plot twist making you want more.

if i can sum this shitty movie up in 1 line to tell you how shitty it was, it would be:

SPIDERMAN, WHEN JOINED WITH THE SYMBIOTE, BECOMES AN EMO KID. what the fuck! i am dead serious!

no but seriously this movie blew ass man it's like the director masturbated all over it if you think it sucked in the beginning the ending ends just like that man with singing & dancing (yes there is atleast 30 minutes of singing and dancing so BE PREPARED) it's like a gay broadway musical for 2 hours & in the end it's even worse when

SPOILERS

the sandman, who apparently killed pete's uncle or some gay shit, just like apologizes all "I KILLED HIM FOR MY DAUGHTER, AND NOW I AM MADE OUT OF SAND" to him & spidey is like "ITS OKAY, I FORGIVE YOU!" pretty much giving the sandman bedroom i-want-to-fuck-eyes

I'm gonna say it was good. I didn't like it personally as much as the 2nd one but it was still a better movie that about 80% of the shit to flood theaters in the last year. But It felt like they were trying to cram too much extra stuff into the plot. This could have easily been split onto two films >:

And I'm tired of them trying to make every character sympathetic, ohh look Norman Osborne's business is collapsing, whaa Doc Ocs woman died and he's under control of the arms, boo-hooo My daddys dead so I wanna kill spiderman, Oh dear, my daughters dying. Cant a villain just be a fuckin villain in these movies? Venom was close but they still had to spend the entire fucking movie explaining his motives when most people who know a fuck all about comics know.

I absolutely agree on the first sentence. Eddie Brock actually starting working out after being fired from his job as a reporter (but before merging with the symbiote), to out vent out his rage.

I won't be seeing the movie, but I think it's funny that so many people are referring to Peter as emo when he gets the black suit. I said the exact thing when I saw the previews for this movie.

"So basically he dyes his hair black, gets pale, and is irrational. Basically, he just turns emo?"

Then all my friends laughed and we did a series of high5s for like 15 minutes.

I didn't understand why Topher Grace was Venom either. As a kid, I always remember Venom being this huge monster type villain whether he was in video games, my toy collection, my comic card collections, or in comic books. I always kinda thought he was the coolest villain for whatever reason, so naturally when I find out Topher Grace is playing Venom I just laughed. C'mon man, that' guy couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag.

ArrowX
May 5th, 2007, 02:15 AM

Also note that his left eyeball is l extended from his face to the point of bulging out.

Protoclown

**************CONTAINS SPOILERS*****************

Yeah, even though I enjoyed parts of it, this movie was a big disappointment and the entire symbiote costume segment sucked balls. A couple friends I watched it with commented that he was all emo, and we were all laughing our asses off at how bad that entire section of the movie was. I seriously felt like I was in the wrong movie during the whole song and dance number in the jazz club. And what the fuck was up with Spidey eating all those cookies? That was to show what an asshole he was becoming? Telling the girl next door to give him more cookies? That was the best they could come up with? The dyed hair, the eyeliner, it was all just too fucking much.

And I fucking HATED the villain team-up at the end. I was really hoping Raimi would have the good sense not to do this after seeing how well it DIDN'T work in the old Batman movies...my ideal version would have had the Sandman stuff resolved in the first half of the movie, and Venom coming into the second half, with perhaps the Green Goblin 2 coming in and attacking Peter while he's got his hands full with one of the other villains (but NOT "teaming up" with them). The shit with Harry and Peter riding his hoverboard together at the end was incredibly cheesy and it made me just want to groan like I'd heard a hundred bad puns at once. Also, Harry didn't seem at all upset that Peter ruined his face.

They also tried to cram WAY too much into this movie and everything important felt rushed, despite HUGE chunks of the movie that just sort of dragged on (it felt like it was 5 hours long). When the symbiote climbs all over Spidey, he's just like "Hey cool, new costume!" and accepts it just WAY too quickly. The Venom stuff was rushed through way too fast too, though I guess that he had probably about as much depth and development as he ever had in the comics.

Things I DID like were Peter's first fight with Harry (even though I couldn't tell what the fuck was happening for part of the time), the special effects on the Sandman (god his origin was so stupid), and the casting of Gwen Stacey (she looked PERFECT, like she stepped right off the comic page). What pissed me off was that they didn't DO anything with Gwen, so she was pretty pointless aside from pissing off MJ. Oh, and the Bruce Campbell part was very funny. Also, Venom looked pretty good.

-Might or might not contain spoilers-

I'm not a big comic nerd like some people here (and I do not mean that as an insult, as I think that Sam Ramini said something to the effect of trying to stay true to the comics), but even people like me were disappointed with how they handled venom. I mean, a meteorite just happens to have the symbiote and just happens to fall within the general vicinity of Peter Parker? :rolleyes I know they couldn't possibly fit in the comic version but they could've at least used the cartoon version of the story, at least it wouldn't have seemed so half-assed. I also didn't like the fact that we get to see venom do his thing but only for like ~15 minutes. I guess it's cause the other two movies were great that I had somewhat high expectations with how they would handle these characters. Some of 'em just felt like throwaway characters despite who they supposedly are (like Gwen Stacy).

Other than that though I thought this movie was alright. It was worth the 6-7 dollars and it got me out of the house so I can't complain too much. :lol

This too.

Now that I look back on it, some of those are actually essential to the story.

I also remember that theres a plot hole that could possibly turn out to set up for another Venom (maybe Mac Gargan) or even carnage. Does it ever explain what Dr Connors did with the sample peter gave him? :O

Seven Force

That would be retarded if they went there. :(

He knew about how dangerous it was though so I doubt he'd use it on himself. I don't think the symbiont would take him anyway, don't they prefer their hosts to be, ya know, not invalids? It got rid of Brock when it was found out that he had cancer.

I actually enjoyed it. It has all the problems mentioned by protoclown, but I was entertained for my $10, and at the end of the day that's all that matters. Was it a masterpiece? No. Best of the series? Hell no, I prefer the first one. But it was interesting enough. I had zero expectations going in, not being a big Spidey-Fan, so that may have something to do with it. I prefer storyline driven comic book films.

Hell, I am one of the few who really liked the Hulk movie.

Well see that's the way you should go see a film. If you have too high expectations for anything you're more likely to be real disappointed by whatever they have. And comparing a book to a movie is not fair, especially if the story spans like a lot of fucking books.

I am also one of the few who enjoyed the Hulk movie, Pednaud.

And that's good advice from Seven Force, but I think it's fairly reasonable to base one's expectations on the prior movies in the franchise. I didn't hate the whole movie so much as I hated PARTS of the movie, but in the end I didn't feel like this even began to compare to the first two.

Despite my misgivings, I liked Venom, and REALLY would have liked to see a helluva lot more of him.

I remember you saying that he didn't have enough character development to carry a whole movie. Now I've never read a comic in my life, but it seems like they could have EASILY dug up enough on him to do away with the Sandman.

First of all, I LOVED the Hulk. I saw it the first day it came out, and I was fucking DROOLING during almost every fight! I mean who else wasn't when he was FIGHTING THE TANKS/HELICOPTERS? Very good movie! PLUS Jennifer Connely is SMOKING HOT :lol

Does anyone know (PROTO/SEVEN I AM LOOKING AT YOU) if Sandman ACTUALLY killed Uncle Ben or did they just shit that out into the plot? It seemed really forced and well, pretty awful.

Protoclown
May 7th, 2007, 01:36 PM
Are you asking if Sandman killed Uncle Ben in the comics? No, they just totally shat that out for this movie to try to make people more interested in Sandman. It didn't work.

Seven Force
May 8th, 2007, 01:11 AM
I think it was always some random guy that killed Ben in the comics, and in the first movie that's how it supposedly went down. That of course was tossed out to shoehorn in the Sandman like Protoclown said.

I got annoyed with EVERYONE ALWAYS CRYING. I SWEAR TO GOD. PEOPLE CRIED ALL THE TIME. CRYING, CRYING, CRYING.

I wanted Venom to be bigger. I don't read the comics, but in MvC2 Venom was a BAD motherfucker, and apparently is a big enough guy on his own, the symbiote just feeds off that. Maybe I'm wrong, but I never thought of Venom as a snarky, sarcastic little fuck. I also got really annoyed when he used "I" instead of "we" as a pronoun. The guy that played Sandman could'a made a good Venom, in my opinion.

Spidey with eyeliner was ridiculous. RIDICULOUS.

I thought a few parts were actually really funny, like the pill scene with Jameson.

I thought it was alright, but the constant sobbing and weeping really got to me by the end, I wanted Venom to be a badass and not just some punk kid, and the first fight (between Peter and Harry) is disproportionately awesome to the rest of the fight scenes.

However, the sand scenes were incredible.
