Starcraft 2 announced!!!

From what it sounds like, it's NOT an MMO (*dance*). Man, I cannot wait to see the new footage. From the IGN live blog:

"Protoss colossus - huge unit that can blast out dual lasers and use long legs to traverse differences in terrain height - in the demo two of them obliterate about fifty or so zerglings."

They're saying it has a unique "story mode" single-player campaign, so that means to me that it's RTS with RPG elements.

MORE good news!

The panel answered questions on numerous topics, including Starcraft II's development history, which Pardo explained "started shortly after Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne" back in 2003. According to Pardo, the game is "very far along" and is already playable in multiplayer with all three factions. When asked about the release date, Pardo gave the answer you may have come to expect from Blizzard: "The game will be released when it's ready."
So perhaps this means we won't have to wait a fucking eternity for the game to come out like we've normally had to do whenever Blizzard has announced a game. I'm hoping for early 2008, which still feels like a long time but would be pretty fast for Blizzard.

So who's ready to become completely unproductive with everything else going on in their lives when this game comes out?

Well for what it's worth, the Starcraft story always interested me WAY more than Warcraft... so that right there would likely make me want to play the game more often. PROTOSS :O

As for the this, as much as I anticipate SC2, I'm still a little irritated abotu Ghost. I KNOW everyone else hated the idea but I just really wanted to play it. Really, just because it extended the starcraft mythos. I guess I'll have to read the book. :(
