The Matrix: Reloaded was reviewed in this week's Onion AV Section, which I trust for reviews more than any other media outlet.

I was afraid of this. They compared it to the last two Star Wars movies (episodes I and II).

from ain't it cool news about the new Matrix movie: "Though I hear there was a screening in New York, that the cast of Saturday Night Live attended, and after the film as the credits rolled the audience booed the movie, and the SNL folks got up and did improv riffs on the film"

The sad thing is that I agree with the person who wrote the review.

I saw it last night. The theater was packed full of people who were nearly having orgasms over the movie. Personally, I thought it was ok. The fight scenes were rather cool. Maxtrix Reloaded added nothing new as the original did (but how could anyone expect it to) It was a fanboy's wet dream and a casual fan's 90 minute distraction.

I tend not to listen or read reviews of movies I intend to see. But I always value the option of Garth over at Dark Horizons, even if I don't agree with him (which I can't remember the last time that happened).

In any case, he made some very valid points, if any of you are interested. http://www.darkhorizons.com/reviews/matrix2n.htm

90 MINUTES??!?

Is it really that short? What kind of bullshit is this? :(

I thought the fight scenes were cool, but the dialogue was so dry and mechanical-sounding that it made me seem energetic and high-strung.

Plus, just knowing that every aspect of the movie will be parodied into oblivion between now and when the next one comes out is an unpleasant notion.

You could review it like the Onion did, as a standard fare movie. Or you could analyze it like Salon does. I think it's the type of movie that transcends the popular ways of reviewing films. Unlike say, "Dumb and Dumberer", studying "The Matrix Reloaded" from an academic perspective is warranted.

The Matrix is gonna be used to promote all sorts of shit, that's only natural. Huggies will be releasing Matrix diapers soon I'm sure. How all the product tie-ins could have any effect on how you enjoy or don't enjoy the actual movie, however, is beyond me.
