DH again:
The Punisher: Yesterday it was revealed that John Travolta has been cast as the lead villain Howard Saint whose described as "a man involved in the criminal underworld who has managed to conceal his violent beginnings and become a paragon of society until a darker, vengeful side emerges after his son is brutally slain".
Today, Marvel head honcho Avi Arad talked with MTV about the role - "We didn't want to do a cliché villain. We are going for a dignified businessman [who is] cold but almost charming. And we are going to see his world fall apart like he made Frank's world fall apart. ... There is a lot of pain to what happens to Saint in this movie. And we needed an actor who can carry a real emotional journey".
Arad also revealed that they'll heavily use Garth Ennis' acclaimed 'Welcome Back Frank' storyline - "It's great characters. It's going to be obviously a hard movie, but there were also great scenes [in the comics] that were almost funny...We'd like to take the Punisher saga and turn it into a real interesting film about emotions, about punishment, and deal both with the hero and the villain evenhandedly as people first and see what happens when the shoe is on the other foot. And you really need great actors to pull it off".
Shooting is set to soon take place in Tampa Bay, Florida from July whilst a teaser poster is now online. Arad is keeping busy with "The Hulk" and seven upcoming Marvel film adaptations including "Iron Fist," "Iron Man," "The Fantastic Four," "Werewolf by Night," "The Sub-Mariner", "Elektra" & "The Amazing Spider-Man".
Does ANYONE besides me see the problems with the comments? >:
And here's the teaser poster:

Marvel needs to GIVE UP.

Marvel doesn't need to give up, X-Men 1&2 and Spider-Man were great. Just because the Punisher looks retarded doesn't mean the other films they have coming up won't be good.
That said, when I heard about John Travolta being in this and I just couldn't think positively about this movie anymore.

I meant on the Punisher. Just scrap the character and we'll all pretend he didn't exist.

Ah, shut up. You know nothing about good comics. Why bother to read comics if all you want is bang bang bang? Just play Doom or something.

Dude...what the fuck? You don't like The Punisher??

I hate every storyline he's been in except the ones Garth Ennis wrote, and that's pushing it. But really, is that such a surprise?

YES. >:
The Punisher RULES.
To be honest, I've only really read the Garth Ennis stuff. But it's damn fun.

Read the old crap and watch your opinion of the character in general plummet. Ennis' plotlines are fun, but the old ones were basically this:
Shoot a druglord. Make dumb comment. Call Micro for help. Get shot, but kevlar saves you. Wait for Wolverine or Ghost Rider to show up. Later on, fight with Spider-Man/Daredevil, listen to tedious speech about morality.

Name an old Marvel hero who DOESN'T look cheesy when you look back at their older stuff.

Not cheesy, annoyingly vile.
Fantastic Four were awesome originally, and still are, usually.
The first 40 issues of the Amazing Spider-Man were glorious.
Daredevil was cool after he lost that gay yellow outfit.

Of course, #1 being Jon Fucking Travolta. He's always such a good bad guy, like in Battlefield Earth.
#2"Iron Fist," "Iron Man," "The Fantastic Four," "Werewolf by Night," "The Sub-Mariner", "Elektra" & "The Amazing Spider-Man".
They are going to crap up these comics. These movies will manage to suck. Besides, the fucking Sub Mariner, dudes.

The Fantastic Four themselves were great, the storylines and supporting cast sucked, though :(

FilmJerk scored an interesting breakdown of six of the smaller characters in the upcoming comic adaptation: "Nicky Duka: Described as “A slick, greasy kind of guy” with a good sense of humor in his thirties. His relationships to the other characters in the film is not explained here. Detective Jimmy Weeks: An African-American character between the ages of 35 and 45, Det. Weeks was formerly in the Special Forces. Now a detective, he’s trying to capture The Punisher. Leonard Glass: In his 40s, he is the sidekick to villain Howard Saint (Travolta). In the casting notes, he is described as “good looking and conservative”. Stanley Bumpo: An extremely overweight character, the producers are looking for an actor 275 pounds and up. He is a happy-go-lucky guy, described as very lovable. In the comics, he is introduced in the series’ third volume as Frank’s neighbor, and helps to save his life. Most will remember this character best when a crane has to lift him out of his apartment when he has a heart attack. John Saint: At 18 to 22 years old, he plays the son of John Travolta’s character and is illustrated as being a “dark-haired pretty boy with a very well toned body.” It is his death that sets in motion his father’s crusade that puts him up against Castle. Mike Toro: A cutthroat Cuban gangster in his mid-thirties". Shooting begins at the end of July under the helm of Jonathon Hensleigh. Thanks to 'Edward'.

Seriously, this nightmare guy needs an instant banning.
On another note, I wonder if it's possible to make a movie about the Punisher that doesn't involve gangsters? There are other types of criminals, you know. It would be interesting if instead of a 2 hour long gunfight, it was Frank hunting down a serial killer.
