I think it just went through the back of his neck, but he thought he was going to kill Tyler, so he died. The book was so much more bad ass than the movie, though, one of my favorite books.

the act of shooting himself killed tyler rather than the physical damage. The book explains it more but the bullet just cut a hole in his cheek. Thats great if you love it but i really doubt you have any good reasons to like it. lol
