Who is your favorite comedian?
I am going to have to say that Bill Hicks is mine.

"Iraq incredible weapons, incredible weapons 'how do you know?' Well uhhh....... we looked at the receipts. But as soon as that check clears, we're going in."

:lol still gets me, every time.

Youp van 't Hek ("Fuck a duck hey." cracks me up with the voice he says it with :lol )
Hans Teeuwen ("Well..um...actually, I think all women are..um...FUCKING WHORES! YEAH!" the absurdity of it all :lol :lol )

George Carlin
Bill Hicks
Lewis Black

Though the single funniest stand up comedy cd I have heard is Dave Attell's "Skanks for the Memories".

I prefer comedy that has some social relevance though...and while Attell can make me laugh more often and harder than the top three up there, it's more of a pure entertainment value rather than actually making some good observations about society that get me thinking, while making me laugh my ass off.

Honorable mention:

David Cross
Eddie Izzard

Currently, George Carlin. So far I bought eight of his comedy CDs, and they're all the best things I've ever heard.

Lewis Black, and here is why...

"there is no reason to body build...NONE! Thats why God gave us The International House of Pancakes, because you'll always feel good about your body there, no matter what your body is, because there is always somebody there that weighs 350 lbs more than you'll ever weigh, it's guarenteed, it's on the back of the menue, read it sometime!"

I have to say that I love Eddie Izzard too. I'm just pissed I can't get any of his stuff on DVD.

PS did any one see him on Conan O'Brien last night, it was great.

Edit: I just looked it up on Amazon and Dressed to Kill is out on DVD and Glorious comes out Sep. 3

Because I forgot. :(

There was an older episode of SNL with her on the weekend update on recently. It was back when Kevin Nealon did the weekend update. She was funny. :(

And yeah, Louis Ramey was the black guy. I saw part of his comedy central presents stand-up special when they showed it within the past week. I thought it was really good.

I am not familiar with Sarah Silverman.

As for Denis Leary ripping off Bill Hicks, as far as I can recall the only similar bits they have were that whole smoking/Jim Fix thing. And that may just be a coincidence.

Regardless, I still like Denis Leary. Whether he ripped that off of Hicks or not, he still has plenty of his own original material that's damn funny in its own right. I love it when he goes off on the stupid shit his kids do.

I like Leary, but i can't stand to watch his No Cure For Cancer special on tv anymore. I look at his stuff as something i'll maybe laugh once at. After the inital punchline, it just doesn't seem as funny to me.

Dave Attell

Dennis Leary

I gotta say though, Mitch Hedberg, best comedian ever!
I like Dave Atell, and I really liked his show on Comedy Central, Insomniac, but my problem with the comedy routine of his that I have is that he pretends to have an Irish accent! Goddamit, stick with the jewish new yorker accent, its good enough for a comedian

Lewis Black is hysterical live, he improvises about the first 30 min of hsi act, after that its his planned routine.

John Reep is also extremely funny, he is that guy in the dodge commcercials with the drag racing car adn the pickup.

Bill Engval is very very funny, "Here's your sign" is a term i use every day

Jeff Foxworthy, if just for the redneck jokes

And best of all, Gallagher, smart social commentary mixed with hitting shit with a big hammer, it does not get better.

For newer comics, I've always found Dane Cook and Jim Gaffigan hilarious.

Sarah Silverman is NOT funny. It just seems like she tries way too hard. I saw her on Jimmy Kimmel's talk show, and she was just annoying.

Wanda Sykes and Dave Chapelle do good stand up, but they have terrible shows.

I agree. Depends on the skit. My bro saw him live, and he said he wasn't that funny, because he did all the same jokes he always did (he said he laughed like hell about the subway joke though...even though he's heard it a million times)

The funniest part of his act was the stuff that wasn't part of the act. People kept yelling stuff during the entire performance because I go to a school where everybody is drunk all the time, and he kept saying stuff back. That was the best.

It's always funny when comics say stuff back, and it's always disappointing when they don't. That's the only thing I don't like about George Carlin. People are always saying stuff like "YEAH GEORGE CARLIN" and he never acknowledges them. If I was him I would be like "Yeah, OK. Kill yourself". :(

Hrm, let's see here...

Dennis Leary is easily my favorite stand-up comedian. I know "No Cure For Cancer" was his big comedic hit, and it was damned funny, but I think his 2nd CD "Lock & Load" DESTROYED it. It's just too good, and if you haven't heard it, you're really missing out. Some great musical bits on there too. Anybody that simply dismisses him as a Bill Hicks rip-off doesn't know what they're talking about.

Steve Oedekerk was always one of my favorites. He had some of the most bizarre stand-up routines ever. The psychic severed head was always one of my favorites. Then came his movie "High Strung" and it was all over... my favorite movie EVER.

Laura Kightlinger. She's a damned good comedian, the only problem I have with her is that she doesn't write enough new material. Whenever she does, it's really funny. I guess she's gotten lazy over the years.

The Amazing Johnathan, this guy has an awesome act. If you haven't seen him fuck with people using his magic tricks, do whatever you can to find some of the footage. Twisted guy.

Chris Rock, some people like him, some don't. The guy is just a natural when it comes to comedy. Damned funny.

Steve Martin... the man is a genius. That's all there is to it.

Chevy Chase, say what you want about his shitty role choices for the past 10 years or so, but he RULED the 80s. The vacation movies, caddyshack, spies like us, three amigos, and the almighty Fletch.

Dane Cook is definitely a funny bastard. I've only seen two of his stand-up performances but they were quite hilarious. I'd definitely like to see more of his stuff.

Henry Rollins, people don't normally think of him as a comedian... but his spoken word shows are 10 times funnier than 99% of the comedians out there.

Larry Miller, before he got into movies, he was a stand-up comedian fulltime. To this day, I've never seen a comedian that creates a better atomosphere or who tells better stories. His bit about the different levels of drunkeness was pure gold. Very underrated/underappreciated comic.

Amy Poehler & Amy Sedaris. If you need me to explain why these two are comedic gurus... get the fuck off of my site right now.

Emo Phillips, the most bizarre comedian out there... but utterly brilliant.

Steven Colbert, you've seen him on the Daily Show and in Strangers With Candy... there's not much that this guy can't do. He can have people in absolute hysterics and not even crack a smile. I don't know how the hell he does it.

David Cross, how can you not like that blasphemous bastard?

Conan O'Brien, great writer and best talk show host ever.

Ok that's all for now.
