Welcome to the other end of the spectrum. Wipe your feet and leave you simple-brained opinions about consoles at the front door. And yeah, this thread's been done in the past. But why bump a thread I might not be able to find?
Kingdom Hearts. People immediately see Disney stuff, and treat it like a SARS outbreak. This is one of the most fun games in the universe, with gameplay reminiscent of Secret of Mana, but with a ton of additions. Some nice side-quests and uber-bosses are in there too. Everyone must play it.
Harvest Moon. Farming sims. Seem boring, but they're highly addictive. There's so much to do, that you can play through over and over (if you have the patience) and advance the game however you want. Grow whatever crops, get whatever animals, whatever additions to your house, even whatever wife you may want. It's incredibly fun. Save the Homeland stands as the odd-one-out, simplifying the gameplay and giving you a shorter time frame. But it's still fun.
SOCOM. The headset alone makes this game incredibly fun. Talking to your fellow soldiers and receiving messages on your mission is really good. A very strong use of stealth, and varied landscapes and missions make this game worth at least renting (but you won't get a headset that way). Online has gone to shit, with so many people finding ways to use game-alterring devices. But if you can still find some honest players, online play is just as much, if not more, fun.
WWE Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth. I was never interested in wrestling until I checked out the shows after playing Smackdown 2. Now, I hate WWE TV because it sucks donkey balls, but that doesn't make the games any less fun. In other words, it's not all that much of a niche title, appealing only to wrestling fags (not unlike the Tony Hawk series).
Season mode is a little bland, and sometimes annoying. But there's nothing more fun than gathering FIVE friends (you'll need a second multi-tap), and duking it out in one of several gimmick matches, or straight-out wrestling matches. Lots of things are lacking, but the fun that can be had by talking shit to your friend as your wrestler wails on his with a chair outweighs them all. And the ENDLESS possibilities with Create-A-Wrestler is just the icing on the cake. Wanna have your crazy made-up midget wrestle The Tick? Done, and done.

Animal Crossing. I know all it is is buying a house, paying it off, and living in a town, but DAMN IT, ITS FUN!
Way to be good at being FUCKING WRONG.
What the hell is fun about the game? Once I finished all the mindless tasks of Tom Nook, there was nothing left to do. I walked around and talked to residents, but they weren't helpful. I knew I was missing something so I went to GameFAQs (or GameFAGs) and asked what I was doing wrong in the game and what there was left to do and the response I got was "find seashells, fish, and bugs and sell them for money". It was that moment that I knew the game was complete crap and I took it back to Blockbuster the next day.
My friend has been playing it since she got for Christmas, and she says it's as fun as ever.
I don't know if I'm out of my mind or the rest of the world is. :(
By the way, EarthBound is very underrated and one of the best RPGs EVAR.

Final Fantasy Legends 1, 2, and 3
Final Fantasy Adventure

Commando for NES (not Bionic Commando that was gay >: )
Lufia I and II
Mario RPG
Rock n' Roll Racing
Arcana
Wanderers from Y's
Legend of Zelda: Majora's mask
Paper Mario (Fuck you. Yeah, it was easy and stupid, but it was fun >: )
And I wouldn't call Animal Crossing underrated. Even though I hated it, so many people love it so much that I don't think it can be called underrated.

I didn't think Mario RPG was underrated simply due to the fact that so many people on here have jerked off over it on other threads.
I forgot about Ergheiz and Bushido Blade. Both of those were fun, for what they were worth.
Too many people unfavourably compared UmJammer Lammy to Parappa the Rapper. UmJammer was by FAR the better of the two.

Jet Force Gemini kicked ass, but unfortunately it was often overlooked.
And since when is FF9 and Majora's Mask considered "underrated"? FF9 was hyped to all hell(deservedly) and Majora's Mask was the trump card for the N64 when the PS2 came out.

There was this old game on the SNES called "E.V.O.: The Search For Eden."
Basically, you had a creature, and you could evolve it as you wished to give it fangs, a shell body, scales, whatever.
I used to think it sucked until I found out that there's actually a use for the Select button. :(

Paper Mario was without a doubt the single worst RPG I have ever played. I played it to the end of the game desperately hoping there was some party of it that might be as good as SMRPG, but all I got was kiddy paper bullshit.
Earthbound is the #1 underrated game of all time in my opinion. I just bought a new copy at Funco land 2 weeks ago because I broke my old one. I played through it again with just as much enjoyment as when I first played it, if not more. Its an enjoyable game with good characters and something lacking from most convetional RPGs: humor.

It doesn't try to be funny, it is funny. It's quirky, it's colorful, it's fun. Most of all, it's different. It's not set in the middle ages (with magical flying machines and the like ;) ) and it's not like every single game before it. That's why I like it.

I think that most of the old "Point and Click" Adventure games are fairly underratted. When people think back to old games they always mention NES games or SNES or Gensis stuff. No one ever seems to say "Remeber the King's Quest games, they were great". Also as far as the Adventure games go, Torin's Passage was one of my favorites and not many have played it.

Actually, I don't fell that Eternal Darkness was underrated. It was a great game, it did get rave reviews, and it wasn't the next Resident Evil. In fact, it's not even really fair to compare ED to RE, as they are two entirely differant types of games. RE is scary, susspensful, and...well...scary. ED is more of a intriuging game and a great story, very UNlike Resident Evil, which has no compelling story to speak off. (Don't get me wrong thou, RE is still a great game...just it's nothing like ED, IMHO)
James
Jul 30th, 2003, 01:24 AM
RE's story, during the games, may seem pretty thin. But when laid all out together, it's a very nice ongoing B-movie plot that's rather interesting.

I guess I'll mention my other favorite N64 game with an MM, Majora's Mask. Probably my favorite 3D Zelda. Fuck your Ocarina of Time.
007: Everything or Nothing never gets talked about, either. It's easily the best singleplayer Bond game ever made, with an original story by one of the Bond writers, and awesome acting by Pierce Brosnan and William Defoe (Heidi Klum, Shannon Elizabeth, and Maya all lend their voice and appearance too). The gameplay takes everything great about Bond (sneaking, hand to hand, gadgets, vehicles, and "oh shit" moments) instead of just having a floating hand holding a gun. Co-Op was fun too, but multiplayer was really lame.

Hell yea! Both Shadowrun games kicked ass! They do need to make a new one aside from that crap fest that recently came out. As much as they are all into character customization these days, they could have a field day with Shadowrun.

I enjoyed the new Shadowrun. I couldn't care less about how accurate it was in terms of the universe, but as a game, it was excellent. The only things keeping it from being truly great in my mind are the lack of variety in gametypes and goddamn horrible connection issues.

True, the game was actually pretty good, the problem is, that it was a waste of the Shadowrun-Licence. They could have called it "Futureblast" or whatever, woudnīt have made a difference.

Glad to hear it, not so many people over here who like it even though we SEEM to be into Cyberpunk quite a bit. Donīt know why I think that, but I somehow know itīs true *shrugs*
Anyway. I want a new, big, glorious Shadowrun Game with an epic storyline, clever design and excellent character-systems. Also, it should be 60 hours long.

Underrated? How about "Wolverine's Revenge" on PS2? Somewhat challenging if yer into the mutant/X-men/WeaponX brouhaha. PLUS it has Mark Hamill doing the voice of Logan!
And if you find it used for, like 3 dollars, you cannot go wrong!

Yume Nikki, even though its not a game you can buy at a store (as far as I know at least..)
It wasn't to involving, but had enough to grab your attention for a while. The areas you explore look extremely nice with all things considered, they felt just like a dream (which is the point, right?). Even though there isn't a whole lot of action or really anything to talk to, the game was still full of interesting characters (Motoko, the five armed girl, or that mute pianist).
It also made you think a little, as the game gave you no real hints.
Only complaint was how big some of the other areas were, that got annoying.
And the ending isn't deep.
(and theres nothing scary about fucking Uboa, goddammit)

So apparently, at one point the game requires you to stab a chick and flip a light switch five billion times, leave the room, come back in, and repeat over and over until something happens. That's a great thinking puzzle right there
Oh, and once you finish working your ass off, wandering around and doing random, nonsensical shit the main character jumps off a building and dies.
That was a spoiler!

I never said it was some awesome game where you go off on some quest to collect the five orbs or to find out that youre part of a dying breed of an ancient race or anything like that... its just a simple little game that isnt exactly like every other game out there.
It isnt an FPS thats played exactly like every other FPS with one or two little bells and whistles... its not a generic RPG made by Square-Enix... its not some other game from some other bastard company... its just a simple little thing.
And yes, I did like it...even if triggering certain events took to much time.

Gun Nac, Shatterhand, and Crystalis for NES. I remember seeing these games just not getting the attention they should have during their time. Crystalis in my opinion is one of the best RPG's I have ever played, making Zelda seem a little less inferior (no offense to the green tunic wearing bitch ass protagonist).

Parasite Eve 2 - Parasite Eve is under appreciated because of lame writing, frustratingly swampy movement through low-quality pre-rendered backgrounds and the meshing of the two genres is uneven, less SquareRPG and more Survival horror please. Parasite Eve 2 is under appreciated because it's attached to Parasite Eve. You can just skip the first one if you'd like but the second one is not to be missed. It's easily one of the best games on the PSX.

Soldier Of Fortune 3 (or SOF: Payback).
Terrible acting, awful plot, over the top gore, suicidal AI, racism and embarassing puns. It's like playing some cheesy action flick from the 80's. Not a great game, but I secretly enjoyed it all the way through.
It requires a couple of small mods to improve the single player (iron sights, a few new guns and some gore tweaking), but I strongly recommend it, if camp humor is your thing.

Wiffles
Sep 13th, 2009, 12:43 AM
The first was OK. But I found the engine quite not up there yet. The best engine IMO was BK Stalingrad, your units have longer vision range, and the infantry can actually stand up against tanks and not get mowed down. They actually last quite a great deal since they use the terrain for their advantage. And enemy counter artillery barrages arent as accurate which means being caught in an artillery strike wont fully decimate your units ^.^
Then again, your artillery isnt that accurate either so you cant win battles with artillery like in the previous games, which means you have to engage the enemy. Which is cool because you have to strategize ^^

Sep 14th, 2009, 02:30 AM
Yeah I played Sudden strike, it was great, but wasnt that tactically involving IMO. Still I thought that was more fun compared to BK. I must admit the later iterations of BK ie stalingrad got very drawn out and tedious. But I like the tactical aspect of it
Plus I never saw another RTS that portrayed urban warfare so well ^^
