Redneck Rampage: Teat gun - awesomely powerful machine gun disguised as a pair of breasts!!
Shadow Warrior: Jon Woo Uzis - oh yeah, you can't beat a pair of Uzis. I like BIG Weapons!
Half-life: .357 Magnum - kaboom!
Max Payne: Colt Commando - nothing like a super accurate shootdodge with this baby.
UT: Sniper Rifle - so much fun, so easy to get those headshots!

I think the reason people are (were) saying the shotgun from Doom (certainly why I think it's the best) is because it is arguable one of the most versatile weapons from any game. A lot of games will have cool gimmicky weapons (like Turok's Cerebral Bore, for example) that win fans over simply for the coolness factor, but in the end you always wind up using the gun with versatility and availabilty. Doom's shotgun had tons of ammo lying around for it, could kill most enemies in a few hits, and was actually both a long and short range weapon. It might take some ammo, but the shotgun was actually the closest thing to a sniper rifle in the game. Defies logic? Yes. Great weapon? Also yes.

I apologize if the preceding was a "Captain Obvious" thing to say. :(

Blood had a pretty entertaining arsenal over-all, even Blood II had some quality tools of mayhem. Except when you played as the amazon cyborg lady or whatever. She was so huge you had to look down just to melee people. Wait..did anybody play as a character besides Caleb?

Naaah I had never gave a sh*t for blood 2. Except some cool levels, the enemies and the creepy/scary factor was 1/20 of the oldest blood.

Anyway blood 2 had a good arsenal but not so "funny" arsenal as the good ol' blood 1.

Doom 3 - shotgun obvious, plus I modded mine with flashlight. The BFG 9000 also is pretty fun to shoot, and makes you feel invincible. The chainsaw, I just love going through monsters with them not being able to get out of the way.

GTA Vice City & San Andreas - katana is fun to cut heads off. Mini Cannon very fun to see all the vehicles get destroyed, leveling everything in a radius, also it sounds so cool when you fire it. Tear gas is the best, because you can just make people hesitate and then kill them, or just make a run for it. But the best of all is the Desert Eagle it is just has so much stopping power.

Fable - the battle axe with fire augment. It works and looks cool.
