View Full Version : NEW MINIMOCK: "A MONKEY ISLAND FEAST!" by -RoG-
Mockery

Here's my latest flash movie (which was originally going to be a site intro, until I got too carried away with it). Took quite a long time to finish it, but it was worth it. I'm real happy to have finally been able to do a tribute to one of my all-time favorite games, the Secret of Monkey Island. It also has a couple o' secrets hidden in it too, so be sure to look for them after you've watched the movie.

Dammit, Mock! You made me spit out a mouthful of beer with the Hot Topic reference.
There's four secrets, right?
Sorry, I'm probably confusing secrets with just shit to click on to. Eh, either way, I thought it was funny as hell.

Thanks for the compliments so far :)
For the record, there are 5 secrets total. 2 of them are fairly big, and 3 of them are just small little quickie secrets.
I've been told I should submit this to Newgrounds, but I'm not sure about it. I mean, the whole thing talks about I-Mockery a lot... maybe if I changed it to talk about Newgrounds or something else instead.

Pretty funny. Did anyone else think the text should've scrolled faster? I read quick, but still, it felt too slow for me.

Jun 17th, 2003, 09:57 AM
yea it was a bit slow for me and i am a retrard. Very nicely done, but yes, way too fucking long for an intro. I think you guys need to work on a downloadable game.
Mockery
Jun 17th, 2003, 12:10 PM
Domo-Kun was downloadable :)
As for the text being slow, I always consider the "people" (and I use the term loosely) who visit my I-Mockery. That being said, it's still probably too fast.

Oh, it was wonderful, and has convinced me to buy Monkey island. I played D.o.t.t. and it was funny as hell. I love opening drawers to make Hoagie say "bitchin'."

Did you never get to play Monkey Island, Mew? Or did you just forget about the music. There's so much good stuff in those games it's scary.
Ninjavenom, if you liked D.O.T.T., you're gonna friggin' LOVE Monkey Island.

I found the parrot, the lever, Stans, the pirate (grr, what was his name?!?? He was an advertisment for loom, back in the day) and if you clock on his button, he gets to talk about I-mockery.
There, that's five, if you count the pirate guy as 2. Do I get a prize? (preferably the key that opens the cabinet in the captain's cabin...)

The old Lucasarts games were the best.
Monkey Island was good, but in my opinion, Grim Fandango was better.
Nice job on the toon.

Thanks again for the compliments on the flash movie.
Tom from Newgrounds just told me that he wants me to submit it to the site. He'll even make a Monkey Island collection this time, which would be real cool. So I guess I will do it, but I'm at least gonna change all of the "I-Mockery gruel" references in the main movie to something else. I'll leave the Cobb secret as is though, because... well, it's COBB for crissakes. You do NOT fuck with Cobb.
I'll let you guys know when the movie is up on there so you can help vote for it. w00t.

Huh? If you're talking about the top 50, this thing won't make it into it anyway...
And Domo is still in the top 50. He fights the good fight.

Didn't a bunch of people vote 0's for no reason on Domo :(?
Mockery
Jun 19th, 2003, 12:29 AM
Yep. Up until about mid-January this year, there were no voting rules implemented on Newgrounds. So large "blam crews" could get away with voting 0's every day on the most popular & well done flash pieces. So finally Newgrounds put an end to it by monitoring people's voting actions 'n stuff, so people can't just vote all 0's and 1's.
I was one of the lucky ones to survive the blam crews, cuz the movie already had a ton of perfect votes before the crews could knock it off the top 50. Still, I wish I had submitted it a month later when they implemented all that stuff :P

Well, you could save the .swf file to one of those computers and then copy it to whatever computer of yours does have a soundboard.

Tom from Newgrounds just told me that he wants me to submit it to the site.
People will blam it because they probably don't even know what Monkey Island is. The people of Newgrounds have no understanding of any good movies at all.
Mockery
Jun 19th, 2003, 10:13 PM
Nah, it's not gonna get like in the top 50 or anything like that, I never expected it to, but a lot of people on NG like Monkey Island. It's just the dumb kids that won't get it...

I was searching around Newgrounds, and I found it. I think it is on the front page now. I read some of the reviews, and the people who liked Monkey Island gave it a good score. Most people who reviewed it said it sucked, and gave it 0s.
I guess most of the people are just dumb kids.
Good luck on getting a whole section on it. I might contribute to it after I get this movie I am working on done. :)

Jun 22nd, 2003, 01:03 AM
No, most people who reviewed it gave it good scores, that's why it's over 3.5 currently. And yes, there's a lot of dumb kids there that say ignorant stuff like "those graphics are horrible!" because they've grown up on X-Box graphics and never even seen a quality classic like Monkey Island.

The monkey island mocks are pretty cool, next time perhaps you can do one involving that mission where you have steal Gov. Marely's idol, and show us what REALLY was going on behind that wall. (Remember the heavily armed clown reference?)

Seriously, I wasn't being ungrateful, I was simply suggesting that a good monkey island mock would be the the governor Marley idol thingy, that's all.

Actually, FatSatan was working on something very similar to what you're talking about. I think he canned that project a while ago though.
And speaking of projects, FatSatan, where in the world is the :whitepig ?

JENNA ELFMAN IS LOVELY. >:
Yeah, making a clip that shows the whole idol-stealing sequence from the other side of the wall is pretty much exactly what I'd been planning to do a while back. Except I could only get sprites and backgrounds through screenshots, so I abandoned that idea. Maybe I'll get back to it sometime.
As for :whitepig , George seems to have disappeared again. I'll send him a note, or an e-mail.
