A guy from work burned this for me today.
HOLY SHIT :shocked :shocked :shocked :shocked :shocked
This is like the ABSOLUTE BEST shooter I've ever played. It's so insanely challenging, the graphics are great, and it's an awesome new spin on your typical shooter. I dare say I enjoy it more than R-Type.
Plus it's almost all in Japanese, so it's great playing a game where I don't understand a thing that's being said.

ooohhh... I'd kill to get my hands on that game. I've only heard good things. Does it shout things in Japanese at you while you are playing?

I've wanted to play this game for a LONG time. Good to hear it's as good as I thought. Time to dust of the DC. :rock
Rog does a 20Mb .rar sound about right?

It's out on the GameCube too apparently, but I haven't tried it on there. I'm sure it's just as good, if not better on the GC. Either way, get your hands on this game. It's pretty damned challenging and so much fun, especially if you play a 2-player game with someone else.

I saw it down at the mall on sale for 30 bucks. I winded up getting Eternal Darkness instead for 15. I heard good things about it too. It's worth checking out.

I heard on tech tv it was extremely difficult and short. I might give it a rental :(

I know. It's the difficulty of the game that I really like. You just see a ton of shit in front of you and all you can think is "how the FUCK am I gonna survive all of that!?!?" :)
Too much fun...

My friend has it on Gamecube. It's pretty fun, just wish it had more to it.

I've had Ikaruga for a pretty long time and its an incredible game.
Even though I'm not good at these types of games I still love to play them. Zero Gunner 2 was fun and Mars Matix is incredibly hard
I like the whole black/white switch. And the graphics are to die for.

I've played Ikaruga on GC, and I knew it was a great game the first time I heard about it. It is really a throwback to the older horizontal or vertical scrolling shooters with only five levels but they're insanely hard, but at the same time it's really different and interesting.
I don't think it's as hard as R-Type. In fact, it just isn't. It's still really hard, but all the difficulty is in switching between white and black. It is possible, however, to win the entire game without firing a single shot. I don't know if using your special attack counts, but it must since I can't imagine how else you would beat the bosses. That would be fucking hard.

Great game... I've had the DC port since its release, but I have yet to play the GC version (no GC). It's definitely one of my favorite shmups, along with Radiant Silvergun.

What system is Radiant Silvergun on? I've never seen/heard of it before.

You've never heard of Radiant Silvergun?!? It was released for the Saturn (in Japan only, natch) in 1998. In fact, Ikaruga was originally going to be Radiant Silvergun 2. Have you noticed when you boot Ikaruga up, under the Treasure logo it says Project RS-2? There you go. If you're familiar with RS, you'll notice a lot of similarities in Ikaruga.
Here's a review of RS that I wrote for my OPCFG site, if you want to find out more about it:
