Not the hardest, not the most badass. Just the ones that make you want to murder someone with the controller.

My vote goes for the Wallmasters in several Zelda games. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to have an enemy that does no damage but makes you start over from the beginning of a dungeon was an asshole.

the trashcan man from Earthworm Jim. It was this robot mad out of trashcans, and he was a miniboss, and sometimes he would take damage, and sometimes he wouldnt take any damage at all.

Wallmasters definitely, and ReDead. I fucking hate all enemies that require you to ram every button on the control pad fifty times to be able to move again.

The metal skeletons from Contra 3 that you have to fight before the actual skeleton boss. They do the most idiotic shit like jump right up into you while you're hanging on the ceiling, and when you finally manage to shoot their legs and waists off, they bounce around using their arms and smack into you over and over.

I'm almost certain it is. They don't come out and say it, but still, look at him: the armbands, the face, the way he flies, with his arms and legs stuck out. Plus, I believe there was a blurb about him going to conquer the world of men in the end of one of his games.

I thought so too but then I realized that if you drop the key (it's a key right? It's been like eight years since I played Mario 2) it flies away and gives you some time to make progress before it starts stalking you again. Apparently the stupid thing doesn't really care if you have the key or not, it just doesn't want you to touch it. In the mean time you can use it as a weapon.
