Has anybody read the Dune books and seen the tv mini series? Is the mini series just as good as the books? Or is the mini series good at all?

The mini-series isn't bad, and definitely more true to the books than the movie...but it does certainly have it's flaws. I don't like some of the casting, and some of the changes they made from the book are just stupid.

Definitely go with the books, the mini-series just doesn't compare.

I didn't like it because it raped the book with double anal action

Dune can only be portrayed in book form...and I'm saying that so no other director/actor/etc gets it into their head what the world really needs is another slow four hours of desert landscapes and flowery language.

The problem is that Herbert's writing is so involved in what's going on in each character's head at any given moment that you just can't capture that on film. Too many long internal monologues, too much plotting and coniving and backstabbing going on to really convey it effectively in any form other than a book.

They do the best they can, obviously, but it just doesn't compare.

I enjoyed the books but I really dont understand how any of them can be made into a movie. There is so much going on and every character is doing so much for the plot that it seems difficult to plan it out for screen.
