I don't know about the Bronze whatjamahoojey, but you get a Purple Heart if you get wounded. She got wounded, she gets a Purple Heart. Thta's what they are given for.

Note that the thread title addresses the Bronze Star, not the Purple Heart. Sure she should get a Purple Heart, but a Bronze Star? Bronze Stars are awarded for valor and heroics. What did she do that fits that description?

The purple heart is not what bothers me...I think it is the "Hollywood elevation" of the whole matter. The whole Lynch-story got hyped in the typical manner. I can hear the narrarator: A WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE, NO MAN COULD GET IN HER WAY, SHE WAS FIGHTING FOR AMERICA...OUR HERO: JESSICA..." sorry for the exaggeration here, but that really makes me sick!!
I mean, it isn't like this girl went out there thinking everything is fine and dandy (if she did, then she should get one of those "Darwin awards"). She went to war! Getting wounded is unfortunately what happens sometimes/normally during war, isn't it?
Don't like it, don't do it!!! It is still a free country (or maybe I am starting to hallucinate), she had a choice, she made her decision, so there.... makes me sound like a real cold bitch, doesn't it?

edit: but then again maybe I AM a cold bitch! :eek

Oh. See, I thought the Bronze star was awarded for being in the wrong place at the wrong time and living.

Or that one you get for having amnesia when they really, really need you to.

I just feel sorry for the poor kid. It must have been terrifying, people she knew got killed and now she's at the center of the Fellini meets Rambo meets queen for a day shit storm.

The way I see it, they've reduced something that actually meant a lot down to something at the level of a gold sticker that you give to pre-schoolers.

Purple Heart, yes. Bronze Star, no.

Why not hand her a Medal of Honor at the same time? She did nothing brave or gallant or heroic. She got shot and captured because her squad was stupid. >:

Max I really respect what you say and most of the time (on most subjects) I "lurkingly" agree with you. I can also understand why you feel sorry for what has happened to her but, I'm more hard about it.
She is definitely going with the Hollywood Glam of it and with NO doubt, she will cash in BIG TIME with her story (books, movies, merchandise ....$$ :love) She will not be missing out on money, THAT is for sure!!
But, tell me, do you think that these kids that enroll themselves in the army, navy, marines are complete morons? Most of them are intelligent and they know that they might get into actual combat..if they were too scared, they shouldn't have signed up! I know that its really hard-core to say that but what more is there to say?! I have a relative that is in Iraq right now and as much as I disagree with him being there, I couldn't stop him with a steam-roller (and I almost tried)! He is 20 years old, and before he left for Kuwait, I asked him why he was doing this and all he said to me was: "because I am doing what feels right for me!"

I am sure that Jessica is happy to be home, good for her...I wish it was my brother...but wtf is the bronze medal for, common now!

i thought the bronze medal was to remind her that she is not supposed to get over her amnesia of the alleged 'capture' ;)

I think that's almost certainly true. But I still feel sorry for her. I don't think anyone honestly knows what they are 'getting into' when they go to war.

I don't know if she'll go Hollywood or not. It remains to be seen. I do think she's a patsy and prop, and I'm sure she knows it, and she's about to get paraded around like a thanksgiving Turkey on it's way to the table.

did anyone catch the news(video) that went to her hometown and interviewed people? they were saying something like 'jessica wouldnt have been there if bush hadnt lied about the weapons' and 'we should impeach him for lying.. 'rumsfeld too for screwing up the attack'
i heard it second hand so i don't know what they actually said.. sounded pretty darn good for folks that had a war 'hero' in town. i wish i had that on tape

The Darwin awards are the funniest awards ever :(

One guy who won it tried to rob a gunstore when a cop was drinking coffee at the counter and about seven other customers heavily armed customers were present. Not to mention the clerk himself. :lol

The Iraq citizen that gave the information and went back again to verify the room she was in and the brave men that took her out should get a parade in my mind.

This is a person who didn't want to fight in the military...but wanted the benefits. Pisses me off, not because of her or what she did...(or actually what happened to her), but because there are about 150 other American soldiers who've died in Iraq. I can't tell you one of their names.

That's the sad part.
