I just picked up the Best of Velvet Underground for 9 bucks, so I'm pleased as pickles :picklehat I love how relaxing Velvet Underground is, despite Nico's disturbing voice.

God damnit. Just when I think you couldn't get any stupidier, you prove me wrong. It's fucking astounding! Nico is the shit, and her versions of "These Days" and "Fairest of the Season," of her album Chelsea's Girls, are two of the most beautiful recordings ever. She is also excellent on the first album.

Also worth exploring is her first solo album, Chelsea Girl. It's sort of akin to the mellower stuff on the first album, but less dischordant.

At first I didn't really like Nico, either, but her voice definitely grows on you.
