Or just use the computer illiterate version of Metal Slug 4. The nrx version. :)

nevermind, you are beyond help.

Well, I have the ROM file, so there must be some existing emulation program to make it work.

Right?

Obviously. Go out and find which emulator works with your rom. If you have visited this site before, you should know we usually beat down newcomers who ask about this series. It is one of those things that you should be able to figure out yourself, otherwise you don't deserve to play it. There are alot of docs on the net concerning how to get certain roms to work since alot of emulators like to lock the rom or something else of that nature. There is almost always a way around it. Ever since I posted about the roms on these boards and the old ezboard, I get flooded with questions about it. It gets annoying.

Mine works fine with Nebula (mslug4n.zip) along with the right files. I also have the nrx version (neorage x) of the rom which is the easiest one to get going but the worst in terms of quality.

3 is better anyway. 4 is great but not quite there.

I haven't visited I-mockery since about 8 months ago, and that was for a VERY brief period of time. I used to be a regular poster back when the forums were in their infancy. I apologize if I'm not up-to-date on the codes and idiocincracies(sp) of the forum. But, thanks very much for the help.

That's no excuse :)

Anyway, if you have the rom, it is just a matter of finding the emulator to use with that rom. Then altering the emulator into letting you play MS4 if it doesn't work right away. You can find .dats and different files to allow you to play. If you use a older version of Nebula, 2.18 or so, then it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Otherwise find the smaller rom file for nrx and use that.

Well you were right, MS4 doesn't hold a candle to MS3.

Any rumors of a fifth one coming out?

for this to work your mslug4 rom must be around 30 mb (that's right no kidding) , and the file MUST be renamed to mslug4nd

alright first of all forget nebula. it's the worst arcade emulator that nobody uses. what you need is a hack of kawaks emulator. you can find that in this website: http://usuarios.lycos.es/neogeoweb/emuladores.htm it's the first emulator in the table. The file is password protected. The password is www.neogeoworld.tk

now put your mslug4 zip (renamed to mslug4nd) in the rom directory of the emulator. also put the neogeo bios in the same folder (the neogeo bios should be in a zipped folder named neogeo.zip) If you don't have the neogeo bios go to www.google.com and type neogeo.zip or neogeo bios, you should get the desired file.

Now start the emulator. Go to File, Load Game, select Only available, make sure that Show Neo-Geo Games is checked, and finally click Rescan All. Metal Slug 4 should show up.

If your mslug4.zip file is bigger than 30 mb (70-80 mb) then i suggest you "shop" around until you find the 30 mb one.

Peace out!

Nebula's fine. It ran my ROM (after some tweaking) so it has my respect.

What they need to do now is make a Metal Slug cartoon series, or movie... hillariousity ahoy!

ROOKIE

the question isn't if it runs it or not because almost all arcade emulators do. but nebula is less user friendly than other emulators and if you want to play this game online you're going to have trouble finding other people who use nebula.

Why would anyone want to play any Metal Slug game online?

Oh, I don't know, maybe because 2 player mode is fun?

Nonesense, poopy pants! Your 30mb copy is shite. You want the whole thing. More quality. Kawaks is what I use for Metal Slug 3 (80.5mb) but Nebula seems to run Metal Slug 4 the best for me (62mb) after unlocking it. The 30mb file of metal slug 4 and the 35mb file of metal slug 3 I have are used in NeoRage.

i currently run nebula 2.17 for MS4, is there a way to unlock any of the higher versions?

timrpgland
Aug 12th, 2003, 05:48 PM
If 2.17 works, then use it.

Actually it's the same game, and I do not think that, I know that. And also the smaller file takes less time to load on some computers so it's actually better. Next time please do not throw insults around when you don't know all the facts.

Now, seriously, does a guy who calls himself Rookie think he knows more than ol' Timmy here does? I think that's pretty funny.

Yes my name maybe ROOKIE but on this matter I seem to know a bit more than your good pal. It shows how much you know, to disagree with me, because what I wrote in my last post is no opinion, it's a fact, so learn from it instead of defending ignorance. I only wish to help. Feel free to check for yourself at kaillera and see if you can find even 1 nebula user .

Nah, i'd rather think that Tim is right, regardless of the truth, because quite frankly, i like him more than i like you.

timrpgland

Obviously it is the same game (I wasn't doubting that) and it will load quicker if it is smaller size, duh. I'm just curious if you are missing some parts of the emulation. Whether they be minor layers or something else. The actual cart size of Metal Slug 4 is 576 mbits which is like 72mbytes. If you can give me some kind of proof that it is still the best emulation available for Metal Slug 4 while only being 30mb, then maybe I'll listen. The fact is I use the emulator that works best for that game I have. Like I said, Kawaks I use for Metal Slug 3 but I have found using Nebula works perfectly with the larger Metal Slug 4 I have.

ROOKIE
Aug 13th, 2003, 11:28 PM
Alright pal I'm not going out on a limb for someone who puts down what took me 10 minutes of typing trying to help out. If there were missing layers I would have mentioned it but I didn't and that means the two versions are identical.

timrpgland
Aug 14th, 2003, 10:34 AM
So in other words, you don't have any proof? :)

ROOKIE
Aug 14th, 2003, 12:16 PM
You really don't know much about Neo-Geo emulation do you? :/ Because if you did, you'd know that the difference in the files (besides NRX files) is only due to encryption (it even says so in kawaks game listings with letters big as your head)
Now do this http://www.rpgland.com/grimnir/metalslug/zombiebrains.gif please.
What I find hillarious is that you keep arguing although you obviously have no clue about this stuff, I'm dead serious.

timrpgland
Aug 14th, 2003, 05:10 PM
That's all fine and dandy. I'll have to test both.

All I need to know about neo geo emulation is how to find games, get the games to work and which emulators to use. Sorry I don't study all the ins and outs but I do like to argue. I just wanted you to prove your point since you're really not giving me anything concrete. Some games, there is a considerable amount of difference between rom files. Not just nrx.

How Ironic. Metal Slug 4 is the most work to get working yet the shittiest in the series >:

I think Metal Slug 3 is the best. Then the original. Hopefully 5 will kick some ass.

I thought Metal Slug 3 was pretty shitty not having nazis to shoot at, after all that's what Metal Slug is all about.
