irreversible - Gaspar Noe
> visually intense, the director has great technical skill. but the story is superficial, and has a contrived air.

what time is it there? - Tsai-Ming Liang
> i need to see this again. subtle, opaque, and funny movie by an excellent director. requires patience though.

the marriage of Maria Braun - Rainer Werner Fassbinder
> fun to watch. the lead actress does a wonderful job in this film about a woman acquiring wealth and power in post WWII Germany.

just rented, haven't seen yet:

andrei rublev - andrei tarkovsky
the crime of padre amaro - carlos carrera
i can't sleep - claire denis

Andrei Rublev? Good luck getting through it. I love Tarkovsky's style and depth, but I found it impossible ot make it through this film. It is indeed beautiful, but I don't know, it was just way to long. I prefer Bergman, who explores the same issues, in a much more compressed timeframe.

The Crime of Padre Amaro - Decent movie. A very Hollywood-type foreign film. Beats its message over your head with a kendo stick.

I Can't Sleep - A pretty good movie about social dislocation, but Jarmusch does it better. Beatrice Dalle is delicious as always :love

Didn't have time to see the Tarkovsky. Oh well, another day.
