Just curious about what kind of parties people around here belong to. I'm guessing most of you are "none." :D

Right, as if the barely registering on the charts Libertarian Party is deserving. :rolleyes

Barely registering? By what standards? The libertarian party is the third largest AND fastest growing in America. It outdoes the greens in that respect.

I'll have to ask you to quantify that. Do you have comparative registration numbers? Which Party did better in the 2000 presidential race? Which party has more state, county, and local officials holding elected office throughout the country...?

I think the poll should be Republican, Democrat, Irrelevant, and None. :rolleyes

I think Al Gore probably thought the same way you do.

"The Libertarian Party is the largest “third party” in America, by almost any means of counting. Libertarians boast 168 elected officials, which is more than every other third party combined. For reference, the Reform Party, who was listed in your article, has only nine elected officials. The Libertarian Party also has more registered voters than the Reform Party -- 182,000 vs. 124,000."

I'm sure you all know of the Reform Party because of Ross Perot fame. They, I believe, are the second largest.

:lol Yeah, notice how they always put "the largest third party" in quotation marks....? The reason they do that is because it's a difficult thing to examine.

Libertarians boast 168 elected officials, which is more than every other third party combined.

Not sure where you're getting your data, but they "boast" much more than that on their website, more like over 500. The Green's don't have numbers I've seen, other than a 26 state analysis one guy did, Mike Feinstein. The Green's have at least 177 or so in 26 states, probably more. The reason it's tough to "boast" about these offices (same goes for the Libertarians), is that most people who run under these titles are running in non-partisan races. Most local and town positions tend to be like this, so it's tough to judge.

EDIT: From politics1.com-- "The LP espouses a classical laissez faire ideology which, they argue, means "more freedom, less government and lower taxes." Over 400 LP members currently hold various -- though fairly low level -- government offices (including lots of minor appointed officials like "School District Facilities Task Force Member" and "Town Recycling Committee Member""

I can tell you one hard fact, and that's that more Americans voted Green than they did Libertarian and Reform in 2000, and you can count on that happening again in 2004 if Nader runs again.

For reference, the Reform Party, who was listed in your article, has only nine elected officials. The Libertarian Party also has more registered voters than the Reform Party -- 182,000 vs. 124,000."

My "article"? Anyway, Not so sure about the Reform Party numbers, particularly since they had the split in 2000 between the Buchanan populists and the Hagelin Natural Law Partyists.

That's because Repulicans don't know how to use the internet.

So does that mean all those websites are jokes? That would explain so much.

Republicans stay away from the Internet because they know Al Gore invented it and put in anti-Republican security measures that fry your brain and turn you into a vegan when you're exposed to them. This would devastate the economy because if all the Republicans became vegans they would free all the cows and chickens, our supermarkets would empty, and we would all either starve or become weak, malnourished animal lovers ourselves.

I'm with the PARTY LIKE IT'S 1999 PARTY. A lot like Protoclown's party, but with cheesier music. And rather than the elephant or the donkey, our political symbol is truly unpronouncable.

I would just like to take a moment to say that I think there is a big difference between "third largest party" and "largest third party," although both of them are pathetic.

Sep 4th, 2003, 12:22 AM
Well, the third largest party should pretty well be the largest third party, since the Republicans and Democrats are the two largest... :confused

Not in Canada, from whence our good Chimp hails. We have 4 significant nation wide parties, then the Bloc Quebecois (Or is it the Parti Quebecois? Who cares anyways, stupid frogs).

Then they don't have "third parties" at all, if there are more than two major ones.
