Re-make of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of FOX Kids now.

I watched the first episode last week for nostagia's sake. They re-doing the entire series from the ground up, like the first cartoon show back in the eighties never happened.

The animation is a lot darker and grittier. The turtles have white yolks for eyes and are massive compared to their eighties-counterparts.

All and all, still cheesy as fuck. But hey, with shows like Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon ruling the cartoon-industry, kids need a taste of quality programming from the eighties.

And I agree about Transformers. The '80s version has some play on words when they named the robots. Nowadays they just pull any car related term out of a dictionary and hope it sticks. No more Wheeljacks, but a hell of a lot more 'Burnouts' and 'U-Turns.'

The latest Transformers version I saw pained me so much. All of the Decepticons (or wait, I think they're now the Predacons again) are clumsy morons, most of the Autobots are too, Prime just sits around in HQ looking gay, and there's anime human characters everywhere.

And I didn't like the construction worker and his son in the original Transformers much, already. :(

I'll give them props for creating an Optimus Primal Gorilla, but they should have cut the crap and just put out the old characters again instead of releasing old models with stupid names. Transformers are cars and then anything else, not vice versa.

Does anybody remember when some idiot company brought back the original Transformers back in 1994-5 in which some really annoying CGI was added into the show? Every cutaway was portrayed by the camera moving from one shot to another and took about five seconds JUST to get to the other scene...fucking annoying if you ask me.

I thought Baxter was originally black in the comics. Meh I caught bits & pieces as I weaved my way in and out of conciousness this morning. I liked the origin bits. I think it's good. But perhaps Armada has dropped my expectations of re-made old cartoons.

Oh and Beast Wars kicked ass, and would have been better if the writters had gotten a decent chance to conclude the series instead of being ordered to end it so the new Beast Machines toys could get on the shelves faster. Beast Machines made me want to commit seppuku with a ballpoint pen.

I still watch x-men evolution cause it's x-men and I can't not watch it, but the pathetic attempts they make at appealing to a younger audience are so horribly lame that I shake my head in disgust at least 3 times a show. The episode they showed on saturday for me was the one where they find out toad's a mutant and the "music" they play in the background and the way the characters act is just fucking stupid. Also, cyclops blasted a non mutant without his special visor on. Full blast no eye protection to lower the power...and the kid survived. I'm sorry, but that's just ridiculous. The guy is blasting through walls with a lowered strength shot one minute, and the next he only knocks a guy back with FULL STRENGTH. Annoys the hell outta me >:

haha, I saw that one and shook my head too. But, the music and the hip factor aside, I still think it's a good show. Maybe because I have crushes on all the girls on it or something, I dunno.

As for April, I HATED that yellow jump suit and I'm happy to see it leave, bugger continuity! ;)

In the original comic, yes, Stockman was black and April was his assistant. The reporter in the yellow jumpsuit was, sadly, a fabrication for the Fox TV series.

On another note: I haven't seen the new series yet. I gave up on Saturday Morning Cartoons when they took Michelangelo's nunchucks away and gave him a stupid ass grappling hook.

If you look in the Interviews section I believe, Laird himself says that April was originally Stockman's assistant. It's not PC for him to just outright say, "And yea, Stockman was black" so neither of us or anyone else for that matter is technically right. But I'll go with it for now, I suppose.

The episode today was great. It introduced Casey Jones, who was one of my favorites on the old show.

I have very much enjoyed this show so far (aside from the theme song). I can't wait till the episodes are released on DVD. That is, if they plan to...which I really hope they do.

I caught today's episode on accident, and though I'm not completely disappointed, I can't say that I was very impressed either. Not something I'll watch on purpose, though it's nice to see a makeover.

When I heard it was taking more derivation from the comics, I had a small expectation for all red bandanas and more violence, though I suppose it was a pretty unfounded expectation for being on FOX KIDS.

I just have to wonder how they'll handle merchandising.

But I don't think there's much of a chance of getting all the classics on DVD, until Cartoon Network or SOMEBODY out there realizes there are thousands of nostalgic bastards out there that would pay for it .I'd wait for the markdown though... comparatively speaking, when you factor in the price for most DVD box sets by how many episodes you're actually getting, the median cost is usually about $10 PER EPISODE. I think you'd probably be better off going eBay. Damn it.
