an Austrian Cardinal recently commented that the Pope is in his last days. while it isn't exactly news to anyone that the Pope is in poor health, it's still going to be a shock when he kicks off.

How is it going to be a shock? Their close ties with the bearded guy above didn't seem to help the other 265 guys escape their often timely demise so why would the current Pastor Aeturnus be any different?

Would be interesting to see them elect another Pope.

I will be so upset when this pope dies! I love the drooling crypt keeper! And my god, the drudge report posts the best fucking pictures of him.

I think John Paul II has taken proper steps to insure the next pope will be to his liking.

Who made that picture of Pope-Bot? I bet that's what the little guy will replace himself with.

I just hope the new pope actually LISTENS to god, and rolls back vatican two the way He wants.

Seriously, though, if you are a devout atholic, the passing of a Pope is fairly big deal. Not that that makes it any kind of no no joke zone here, but if your jokes are based on the isn't a meaningful passage for a lot of people, your joke might be funny, but it's still ignorant.

I like informed humor. Like my joke. That's why I am better than anyone else and God smiles upon me.

I'm surprised the Pope has lived as long as he has. Awhile back, someone predicted that the next Pope would be from Nigeria.

So who, exactly makes the decision for his sucessor? The cardinal hierarchy? Is the current Pope actually involved in the process? If so, that would be kind of morbid, wouldn't it? Then again, if you have THAT kind of faith, then you'll actually be looking forward toward the afterlife and the choice for your sucessor may be just a "matter of fact", business-like venture.
