GO BUY THIS NOW. new primus dvd/cd, its amazing, all 13 primus videos + 2 hours of concert/backstage footage. I'd have to say Mr. Krinkel, or Wynonnas big brown beaver is my favorite video. The cd is alright, nothing groundbreaking for primus, and sounds alot like "purple onion" by the flying frog brigade, but it was well worth the 12.99.

Interestingly enough Oveture of 1812 is one of the most overrated pieces of the romantic age.

But still, muzak is a stomach churning pile of wetdogshit.

I've never heard muzak, should i be thankful?
Bennett
Oct 9th, 2003, 03:25 PM
oh, I'm sure you've heard it... most likely in a department store... also known as elevator music, it's the instrumental version of popular music, only it doesn't really sound instrumental, more like someone is laying all the different parts and melodies onto an eight-track using a casio keyboard (taking special advantage of the flute and string sounds)

Stop talking shit. I am taking this as a joke but, fuck, lay of man.

Oveture of 1812 is extremely overrated, it is a good piece, but still it isn't nearly as good as the rest of the stuff coming out of Russia at the same time (see Mussorgsky).

Primus still smokes a donkey nut compared to the Beatles.

The Beatles sucked. They were a pop machine whose were afraid to write what they wanted untill they had a big fan base, songs like "Can't Buy Me Love" and "I Want to Hold Your hand" make me want to resurrect John Lennon just so I can put another bullet in him.

You're a fucking tool. The Beatles made some very great pop music; early in their career the music they made may not have been sophisicated but it was fucking good. Get your head out of your ass and stop judging music with your pre-conceived notions about what John Lennon waited to do.

Royal, quit liking music because your parents did, you close minded fucker. The Beatles were mediocre in talent at best and trite garbage at worst. Nothing they did was exceptional in anyway whatsoever. Just because they were popular dosen't mean they were good.

Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and night at bare mountain are indeed some of the most interesting music of the era but I really still don't see how Overture 1812 is overrated.
And the beatles had an amazing sense of harmonic layering that cannot be simply disregarded because much of their lyrics weren't that good. The have phases where both lyrically and musically they're an excellent band.

My parents are obsessed with the Beatles. They have a poster of the band hanging up on the wall of their bedroom. :(
They're one of the few bands which I'd go for some love music cuz they make my heart go a-thumping with love! :love

My parents weren't really big Beatles fans at all. I found them through listening to the oldies station.

I still fail to see where The Beatles are some kind of high art that can never be approached by anyone, ever. Was the music allright? Yes. But it was always boring and never had anything to offer that couldn't be found better somewhere else. Why is it that everytime i say that The Beatles were not very good I get the fucking third degree. I seriously get less shit when I say something bad about Jesus.
And Helm, perhaps it was wrong of me to call 1812 overrated, it is just that it never really appealed to me. It is too...military i guess. I don't like the big grand sweeping nationalistic themes that you hear in it. I prefer my music a bit more understated. And the fucking cannons piss me off.

Didn't Tchaikovsky not even like Overture 1812?
Helm
Oct 13th, 2003, 02:42 PM
Yeah I hear you on the epic thing. I dislike Wagner for the same reasons, but I trying I guess to approach the impotance of the piece subjectively... which is something of a lost 'cause.
As to why everybody wants to burh you alive because you don't like the beatles, I think the extravagant fashion of Lennon's death is the reason. As if the beatles weren't big enough before that, fter that they've achieved the godly status. People like icons. And they ate it when you shit on them. It's like if you say that The Clash sucked your nuts, Rongi (and all the other idiots like him) will go 'I HAET YUO' because Strummer died or the same thing about The Doors. Or Nirvana.
Take a big band, kill someone in it, and you've instantly got cattle worshipping said band.
Royal Tenenbaum
Oct 13th, 2003, 07:27 PM
Yes, we all like the Clash because a member of the band died. :rolleyes I seriously doubt Strummer's death contributed in any way to the fanbase of the Clash.
Helm
Oct 13th, 2003, 07:35 PM
Not to the fanbase. Give that a few years. But to the fervent way the band's supporters threaten to claw away your face if you say something bad about their dead person band.

failing to see how they were, and still are extremely influential is one large reason why people will give the 3rd degree on this subject. or making a statement such as, "they were always boring and never had anything to offer that wasn't done better somewhere else." (sorry I was to lazy to cutnpaste).
I for one don't care if someone doesn't like the beatles, but to basically say that they never did shit is a pretty uneducated statement.
what are your thoughts on the beach boys, Big?

Also i dont like the Beach Boys, i think there music is boring and has nothing to offer me, but they were influential.
