View Full Version : I-MOCKERY'S ZOMBIE FILM FUNDRAISER IS UP!

Mockery
Oct 18th, 2003, 03:11 PM
I've finally put up the fundraiser for the horror/comedy zombie flick that I've been wanting to make for a long time. If all goes well, filming will begin sometime next summer or fall. Damn that'd be cool. Anyway, I've set up a whole page explaining some details about what the fundraiser is for, so please check it out and help out whenever you can spare the cash:

http://www.i-mockery.com/zombie/zombie-button.gif (http://www.i-mockery.com/zombie)

You'll also find an F.A.Q. link at the bottom of the page. If you have any other questions, feel free to post them here or email me and I'll get right back to you.

Thanks peeps. :o

You should read Bruce Campbell's autobiography. Especially the part about filming the first Evil Dead. It'll give you a lot of ideas as to what you might be in for.

Ninja, yeah she already saw your comment. I like the zombie too. :)

James, I own that book and I loved every bit of it. I've also read both of Lloyd Kaufman's books. Well almost both of them... I'm 3/4'ths of the way through the 2nd one. So that means I'll be done reading it in about a year.

Have you seen Chris Smith's American Movie? It's a documentary that follows Mark Borchardt, a guy trying to make his own horror film called Coven. It may inspire you.

Anyways, I'd love to see this pull through, and I'd buy a DVD as soon as I could.

I'm the biggest zombie movie geek ever in the history of any type of movie geeks. I'll rent or buy any movie that even hints to zombies. I at one point wrote a book of short stories on the subject. I lost it years ago, however.

rog, I know some people involved in movie making, what kind of assistance do you need?

Right now it's strictly financial... I'll know what kind of staff/help I'll need for the actual film when we go into pre-production after the money has been raised. Until then, I'm not going to really know because how much money I raise will decide which movie gets filmed.

AND DR. VOLSHURAWITZ! AND NURSE STANKY. That would be so friggen awsome. How much money do I have to give you for that? So are you going to be in it RoG? What about Protoclown or your other Richmond pals?

All zee moooney in zeee wooorld! Anyway, yes... I would definitely be in the movie and if Proto wanted to be in it, he could be. He'd be involved in the movie one way or another though for sure. Same for my "other Richmond pals".

You should make Protoclown be in it. He'd then have a truly effective pickup line:

"Hey, baby. I was in a movie. Let's go knock boots."

I'd have to say I'll donate what I can when I get it, although you know.. knowing that a big enough donation could land me a part in said flick, even as an extra, might mean I'd donate a bit more :)

DV is the plan... but considering I haven't even raised 500 bux yet, I don't know what I'm gonna film. it will be shot on DV and will be released on DVD.

Make sure you get a cam with a decent CCD chip. DV can work well when you're on a beggar's budget, but cheap models mean you have to get a lot of extra lighting equipment and do a whole lot more work.

Howdy,

Just had to chip in here, since I went down the old Zombie movie road a few years back. I'm in the UK and managed to raise about fifteen thousand pounds (about $27000 at the minute I think) by approaching local businesses and asking them really, really nicely for money. You'll be amazed how many people want to be involved in the film industry in whatever way they can. I made up a little pack for them with the script, resumes of the main crew (most of which was completely made up) and a few pages of general "here's why this is such a good idea" kind of stuff.

Importantly I got into the contract that they would only make money if the film did. If it didn't they didn't get back a penny of their original investment. The trick with that is you have to convince them you know what you're doing, so it's all in how you handle it when you're talking with them face to face.

Anyway, pre-production and shooting all went well, but something went horrendously wrong just before we edited and some of our DV footage got corrupted. We'd spent all the money and didn't have enough to reshoot the bits we lost since it would have cost a fortune to bring back all the actors, etc, etc. As a result Zombie Love Stories is now sitting incomplete and likely forever will be.

But I learned a huge amount shooting it and would do things much differently next time round, so I'm happy to give you any advice for what it's worth. I've also written a few screenplays which have been picked up by production companies over here in the UK and have written a sitcom with the BBC, so I know a bit about screenplays too (actually I don't, but don't tell anyone), so if you need another opinion on your script I'd be happy to have a read. If your script is top rate, your zombie make-up is half decent, and the soundtrack audible you're 99% of the way to getting your money back.

Oh, and for Editing get a Mac G4 or G5 with Final Cut Pro. I went the Windows route originally and it was a fucking nightmare.

Baz

Mockery
Mar 30th, 2005, 10:41 AM
Yeesh, losing that footage must've really been a bitch. My condolences.

Anyway, thanks for being willing to offer filming advice... I just might take you up on it sometime. Right now I'm just waiting to get more free time so I can really put all my efforts into filmmaking. I've got a nice camera and 0 hours spent on it, so I've a long ways to go before I go shooting a feature film. I just want to do some film shorts / trailers / etc. to get my feet wet first.

Oh, and I WILL be using a PC for this and I look forward to the nightmares.

Yeah, i know a movie development group in NY and they got a G5 to do their editing on, and they absolutely hate it. The thing crashes every 15 seconds or so.

Not to say that Premiere doesn't pull that shit on you either, but at least it's just the program that crashes.

Mockery

Yep, I totally don't buy into the "you have to use this kind of computer to do this kind of work" mindset. I say use whatever you're most comfortable with to get the job done well.

I've used after effects for a video clip I had to make and it's thoroughly confusing and unintuitive for simple cuts so just saying that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone wanting to edit on it. Good for the various effects, of course, which I guess goes without saying, but the cutting and splicing environment is really akward.

Premiere on the other hand is really simple and easy to use.

I don't think you have ANY room to talk when it comes to procrastination. As we are members of the internet epicenter of mockery, you cannot hold out on us for much longer, That Man. There are rules to be followed.

How about a script? Once we see some parts we may be able to help. especailly since the move is obviously GREATLY going to affect this.

Why don't you enlist the help of the persecuted zombies in Minneapolis? I'm sure they'd be more than willing to lend a hand.

Awright, I managed to scrape up some money for you guys. It's not much, but maybe it could pay for make up, or something.

I'm working on getting a job, so as soon as get one, I'll try to start donating small bits. I'd love to see this movie happen, and get credited for donating :)

But that would mean I'd need to start a NEW donation fund so people can give me money to afford one of those thermometer things :(

Anyway, like I've said before; I now have a camera and I'm doing little things with it here 'n there. I'm also going to be taking some digital film classes late this year or early next year at the New York Film Academy. So once I've done all that, I'll probably start doing some short films to "get my feet wet" and after that, I'll see where I stand as far as the zombie movie goes. I don't want to do the zombie movie until I feel I'm truly "competant" enough to do it. Granted, I'll probably have a DOP anyway, but I want to have some solid filming experience under my belt beforehand regardless.

heh, I just checked to see if my super didgi camera could make proper, high detail films, so i turned it on and it said battery empty, so I'll have to try again later.... I've always wanted to make a zombie film, but me and my friends only had camera phones etc. so the idea just died off :(

Oh, and does buying imock stuff go toward it?

on this weeks episode of 'Penn and teller's Bullshit' they paid a guy $500 to get a colonic done, which was going to help fund a zombie movie he and his friends were making.

if everyone on the forum did something like this you could get the cash in no time :P

I'll glady pay anything if I can be cast as a zombie. No if's or but's. Seriously, I have years of exp. in film production.

My only peev, no offense, is that using the phrase "real actors" usually means all $$ ---> said actors. And usually by that logic, "real" infers famous. Which would kinda suck if all funds are derived from donations by hundreds. It's a b-film, right? low-budget? it would seem contradictory. There's about a million failed actors with low-profile gigs and actual acting degrees that would serve just as well. I guarantee plenty of them frequent this site.

This is actually why I wanted to post here again, I want to know if this is still happening or not. I love me some zombies, and I would donate like $100 every few months to the cause, but as soon as I saw Doc Mock's Movie Mausoleum, I figured you guys didn't get enough money and just decided to to DMMM. Don't get me wrong, DMMM is the most awesome webshow ever, but it's no zombie movie.

So if it's still going, lemme know, I'll pitch in.

Can I act in it, Rog? I'd be more than happy to work for delicious snack cakes and cans of soda.
There is a disturbing lack of distribution in this country for Troma films. The books were lol though.

I will donate to this fim, as long as it has a police captain played by Gary Busey.

if i wasn't dirt poor by IRS standards i'd do ROG one better than a simple donation. i'd buy ROG his own movie studio. Now i just need about 500 million bucks...
