I saw the Simpsons Movie a few hours ago. It was really good; not great, but good.

When reading the reviews, I didn't really understand the complaint that it felt like an extended episode, but after seeing it that's my only real complaint too. You'd think a climax revolving around a bomb would be dramatic and suspenseful in some way. Instead, while the bomb ticked, people stood around talking and making jokes. There was no sense of urgency whatsoever and it seemed like a bizarre directorial decision, because it could have been specactular.

Despite that, and despite feeling that the humour was broadened slightly, it was still very funny. It wasn't until I got home and thought about it that I realised how many great jokes there were; Chief Wiggum, Fat Tony and Lenny and Carl's scenes were fantastic.

Overall it's not as dense with great jokes as the classic episodes; it feels closest in tone to season 10, I would say, and I noticed that the scene with Homer driving through the series of signposts was completely changed and sucked of it's humour since the animatic in the special features of the season 9 dvds, which makes me wonder how much else was dumbed down. Still though, very funny. Great job!

PS a director's cut with restored scenes on the DVD release would be amazing; the movie was far too short.

Jon Vitti, John Swartzwelder, David Mirkin, George Meyer and Mike Riess on the writing team as opposed to the current show's writing staff made this movie enjoyable.

Few funny parts but pretty shitty overall. All the dumbass slapstick shit was only funny for the kids.

I agree that there was too much slapstick, but excluding Borat, I can't think of any other comedy movie from recent years that had so many memorable scenes and one liners. I won't list them, since it's only been out a few days and the IMDB quotes page will probably do that for me, but most of the funny parts had nothing to do with Homer.

The main things that impressed me were the characterisations and voice acting, with all of the characters, excluding possibly some weird Bart moments, acting pretty much the way they used to. And I only cringed once in 90 minutes (at boob lady,) which is a major step up from the current show.

Although not necessarily my favourite joke of the movie, the most I laughed was at the newspaper headline that flashed on screen for two seconds, "Mouse did everything to save cat."
The ambulance they're talking about is the one that crashed into Springfield gorge in "Bart the Daredevil."

I saw the movie because my friends were psyched, but in all honesty, I haven't watched The Simpsons show on my own in about ten years. Ironically, I somehow ended up the first person in line for our showing.

It was pretty funny, though if I'd been watching The Simpsons religiously like some people I might not've found the jokes so fresh. But, in the end, the movie was pretty funny. Most of the jokes worked, though I could've lived my life without seeing Bart's penis.

Things I liked? Moe became Emperor of Springfield. lol! And the pig was pretty funny, despite all the hype it had.

I probably would've rented it if my friends hadn't wanted to go. It's kind of a one-time movie for me.
