View Full Version : The Universe on History Channel

History Channel has been pissing me off in recent months, largely for shit like this where they bring in names like Guth and Greene just to say, "yeah, I guess Newton was a pretty smart guy". Even for a channel geared toward people with absolutely no attention spans, the actual science they were talking about was so dumbed down I had no idea what the fuck they were talking about. They talked about Grand Unification as if it were a priori fact. However, I was impressed that they pretty accurately talked about the religious aspects and struggles with astronomy, namely the role Catholicism played in creating heliocentrism and the big bang theory.
I didn't catch all of it. It was fun to watch, just tedious at times.

I would think there'd have to be a little down-dumbing in a half hour/hour long show about the history of the entire universe.

It's exactly why I don't like that channel. They take things i'd rather read in books and turn them into programs that make idiots feel like Einstein because they could stand to watch 5 minutes of it while baby sitting my sister.

I enjoy it because it gives me a little sample of stuff I may not have already known about, which then motivates me to do more investigation on my own time.
Also, Mail Call.

I don't like History Channels programming. I'm a National Geographic and Science Channel fan. :/

I liked it. I really like Mail Call.
But if I get another insight into the secret life of Adolf Hitler, I'm gonna burst an artery

I have to agree with the general disdain for the history channel.

I don't know if it's on anymore but I used to enjoy watching the Civil War Journal from time to time.
