Well, it's now 1:00AM on Halloween where I live and I am not sleepy. Earlier this evening in an effort to soothe my self-hatred for not coming up with a monster cereal I started messing around with Photoshop, inspired by JediScum's 'Foghorn Leghorn-Green Lantern' amalgam avatar.

Just for fun I'd like to invite anyone in the mood to make and post their own cartoon amalgam. My theme is furry cartoons (Warner Brothers, Hannah Barbara, etc) combined with superheroes (DC, Marvel, etc.) but do whatever you feel like. I think I may do a Popeye-Aquaman next. :hypno

I was wondering, what art program do you use? I can't afford Photoshop so I found and downloaded Paint.NET v3.10. Seems to do alright, but, I haven't done much with it yet.

I've been using Photoshop CS which I paid full price for from a reputable dealer. I know there are some other good shareware options, and they are probably just as good or better than Adobe's over-priced product. Every time I open the thing up I learn something new; this last one took me at least six hours of work. :\ I should probably read a book instead of just flailing around.

Blue Gularis - Nicely done on Flash Gonzales. I'm scrapping the Vision/Tweety idea, for now. I feel I could do way more if I were gonna go there, and my skillz just aren't there yet. I'm thinking soft-core porn with Vision-Tweety and Sylvester as the Scarlet Witch.

I do have a couple other ideas. One is somewhat FF related. It involves crossing 2 characters from the Fantastic Four galaxy of the Marvel Universe with Tom and Jerry. Nothing will infringe on the FF#1 reproduction though.

Another idea came to me today, that involves Ultron-5. Preliminary research has been done. It will be the first character that I will actually give a name to.

I really don't know what the anime/vid game pricks have against this, other than being jealous that they are incapable of producing anything for themselves and are doomed to a life of vicarious thrills- pathetic, really. Those who can, do and those who can't become critics. A pack of shrill, shrieking shrews. I am going to talk to you as if you were a normal person. Everybody has their own idea of what is funny. I myself don't think cartoon amalgams are truly all that "funny" in a big HA Ha kind of way, they just happen to be mildly amusing to me and some others. It's fun for us to take cartoon characters and mix them together. Is it creative? Maybe not all that much, after all we are using the creations of others. Fun? Definitely! As I said earlier I find this exercise satisfying in the same way that I like Halloween costumes and coloring books (you are never too old for coloring books) It's also fun the way having a favorite TV or movie character cross over and make a guest appearance in a different TV show is... it feels like a look into a parallel world, the universe expands a little. A lovely added bonus is I've gotten lot's of practice with Photoshop which has just today landed me a sweet part time job as art director for a sci-fi magazine that I am going to have a lot of fun with- I win-win. You'll certainly be pleased to know that I included 'Popeye the Aquaman' in the samples that went with my pitch! :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol -That's me laughing my way to the bank folks! To quote Steve Martin, "I get paid for doing this." :lol :lol :lol

It becomes funnier when you are an old time comic reader who preferred Marvel/DC in the 1980's/early 90's, then stopped reading them only to hear that Marvel and DC actually DID an AMALGAM mini series that hit the local convenience stores. I picked one up in 1997, for wtf sake and for use in collage.

I like comics and cartoons but, I am out of touch with "THE SCENE". I've never been to a comic convention. I stopped buying in 1992. From what I have read on the internets about comics, they seem to be doing ("they" being marvel and dc) the same shit they did with Secret Wars II and Crisis On Infinite Earths.
