I've been dying to give this movie the full feature review treatment for a long time. True horror fans need no introduction to it, but for the uninitiated, "Silent Night, Deadly Night" was the most controversial Christmas-themed horror movie ever made. Check out my in-depth piece which talks all about the controversy and then takes you on a step-by-step recap of the entire film.

i actually saw the second one first so i was quite shocked to see the original. or rather, that i had already unknowingly seen the original

i liked how they flashed back to a lot of stuff that guy had no way of knowing, like the cops breaking into the wrong house and almost shooting someones dad. christmas almost came early for him that year :O

Billy then goes after the clerk lady who never a fly
I think you missed the word 'hurt'. :)

This was amazing. I absolutely have to see this movie now. I even had to get some hot chocolate while I read it, as per your suggestion. Excellent piece.

Now that quote my friend says makes sense!

Anchor Bay is putting out another copy?

Good grief! I thought about skipping this one since I have the double feature disc with the infamous sequel, but I might pick up this one just to see what the extra three minutes of gore (according to the IMDB) do. I didn't think the original was gory in the slightest, but it's worth $9 to see what the hell the big deal is. Chances are it's just more crap that stretches out how infinitely dull the whole affair is.

Still, I was hoping they would get the rights to all FIVE of the movies and then put out the uncut one to justify the enterprise. The third is slightly better but is still godawful and the rest are just...well, junk. Honestly, I wouldn't pay more than $15 for all five, but just to have them around to torture loved ones with over the holidays would be a laugh and a half.

Good review, by the way. :rock

Yeah, they basically made the 2nd one to try making more cash off of the first one since it was yanked from the theaters far too early. I haven't listened to the commentary track yet, but apparently the creators of part 2 (and one of the main actors) totally rip into the movie on it. Should be a fun listen. GARBAGE DAY!

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it. And yes, you MUST get this movie. It's only 10 bux on Amazon now anyway and definitely worth buying. No Christmas holiday should be spent without seeing it at least once during the month o' December. PUNISH!

Thanks man, and yeah, I'd kill for a box set of all 5 movies as I haven't seen them all (though I'm well aware of how awful they are... but awful in an amusing way, which is all I ask out of a cheesy horror flick). And yeah, I'm hoping to get this latest version just to see what the extra gore is. On my version with the first two movies on the DVD, it looks like they included all the extra gore already... and you can tell when they did, because the extra gory scenes are unmastered and really grainy compared to the rest of the film. So unless there are additional scenes, I'm guessing all this latest version would have is those same scenes, but remastered so they match the rest of the movie print.

It could be Anchor Bay trying to make another buck off of us since the original double feature release is now OOP. Still, I already bought it so it'll be neat to see what's changed and such.

As for 'Silent Night,' I only got up to Number 3. Robert Culp versus Ricky with a Brain in a Transparent Dome? Enough said.

Nice article. I am amazed that I have yet to see this movie. Looks like a riot.
