Not contradicting the fact that I like The Black Parade, but everything else about MCR can suck a complete dick. The fans, the bandmembers, the bandmembers constant fanservice to their female admirers in the form of being faggots with each other, everything.

They'd be more popular with the cool kids if they weren't such jackasses!

I donno...I just don't think it would be the full Carpathian Forest experience without Vrangsinn.
I'd still go see them of course. but it would feel incomplete without the fat-ass in speedos of legend.

They're so amazingly tongue-in-cheek, too. I mean, albums called "Shiny Black Leather" and "Fuck You All!!!!"? So. Cool.

No way, i love the ones that take it really seriously, they make some of the best music, and you almost never have to worry about their music being dishonest.

how the fuck does gender confusion have anything to do with what kind of music someone likes

I was likening your tendencies to desire being viewed as a woman to a strong flaw in your judgement. A person of you character would not be able to fully apreciate a genre of music beyond the scope of traditional rock or whatever is popular nowadays. You fag.

Vanhelm13
Jan 8th, 2008, 12:11 AM
There's a difference between taking yourself seriously, and taking your music seriously.
Mayhem is all like "Holy crap. We are so good. Do not diss us we are awesome"
And would never do anything humorous.

The best example I can think of would be anyone in Iron Maiden except bruce dickinson (he's an asshole)
They are completely dedicated to their music. But they don't think of themselves as "too good" to do anything.

I think it all goes hand in hand with so many BM bands idea that they have to be evil or whatever. It's bullshit.
"We have to be the most evil satanic band ever! We'll have 50 goat skulls and 666 inverted crosses, yeah! We're so KVLT"
Just shut up and wear a pink speedo because it would be hilarious.

It's like they don't know how to have a good fun time without sacrificing a virgin and masturbating over a severed goat head.

Black metal is good but the fans, the performers and the ideology is ridiculous

Not entirely. Despite the fact that he is a complete piece of shit, I agree with Varg's reasons for burning down the churches, but not with the fact that he actually did it. A lot of Black Metal (once you get beyond childish obsessions with satan) bands are about very reasonable things, such as free thinking, the rejection of religion (judeo-christianity especially) in favor of ancient rituals, ancestor veneration, environmental conservation and propagation, naturalism, astronomy, and the revocation of one's own position within human society. Corpsepaint, satan, animal parts, church burnings, taking yourself seriously, and murder are all just theatrics.

Vanhelm13
Jan 8th, 2008, 11:20 PM
The problem arises when the line between real thinking and theatrics is blurred. Which happens all to often up in the frozen wastes.

and those church burnings. the idea was "Jesus is bad. We make Jesus go away" which shows a hate for a group of people based on their religion. I mean, I'm all for hating people like Jerry Fallwell who said that katrina and the tsunami happened because of gay people, but burning down a church just because Jesus is stupid?
Lame.
It's the same kind of thinking that got so many of his precious vikings killed back in the day.
It's the same kind of thinking that makes people want to keep all Muslims off planes

Either way.
Burzum is amazing.

Vanhelm13
Jan 8th, 2008, 11:25 PM
Anyway. Know any black metal bands that are less about theatrics and more about writing intelligent songs that analyze society?
Because that would be the greatest band ever.
Rather than screaming about how much they love satan, they could scream about church hypocrisy and how churches should be taxed.
Instead of "HOLY SHIT SATAN IS AWESOME GRAAAARRR" it could be "THE WORLD IS FUCKED UP RIGHT NOW LETS ORGANIZE SOMETHING GRAAAARRR"

Think about it

The first church was burned because it was constructed directly on top of an old pagan religious site, IIRC. It shows a disdain for christian oppression more than it does the christian people who attended the church.

Oh fuck. Every time I hear Silencer, I fucking winch and hold my balls. That man sounds like a fucking castratti.

Bigtimecow, the black metal being extreme comment came from the apparent fact that most of the black ( and death ) metal bands are willing to do more than just sing burning churches, killing people, assault, etc.

A lot of them really do go into it. Sure, you got the guys from Velvet Revolver who sing about doing cocaine and fucking hookers... And they probably have really done it... But when was the last time you heard about a bunch of fucking kids in a metal band burning down churches? Normal rock 'n roll doesn't compel someone to do something like that.

As a general rule of thumb, I dislike the vast majority of Black Metal bands out there. It has nothing to do with the ideology and everything to do with the fact that I find the music to be unlistenable. The exception are bands that combine Black elements with another genre, be it Death Metal (Dissection, Naglfar), Progressive Metal (later Emperor) or bands with a Viking slant (Enslaved, Arcturus, Borknagar).

Speaking of Black Metal; anyone going to Wacken this year? I went last year and I have to say it was the best time of my life.

Anyway, BM. Anyone else on here like Anaal Nathrakh? I don't think they're that big outside of Europe but I'd seriously recommend anyone to give them a listen. They're kind of a Grind Black Metal Industrial-ish sound, but they kick ass. Plus I know the frontman, he drinks in a pub I go to.

My favourite BM outfit of the moment though has to be Nattefrost. I might not agree with the ideology behind NSBM, but fuck me it sounds awesome.

All that said though, I'm more of a Death Metal fan than anything else.

They used to play black metal, now they play shoegaze.

Saying that new Alcest really has something to do with black metal is like saying that new Tiamat has something to do with death metal.

Just because they switched genres, doesn't mean their new music has anything to do with the old style.

I don't like Turisas..

For my Viking Metal fix, I usually listen to old Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Einherjer, or Tyr.

Tyr and Amon Amarth are way better, but sometimes I need something way over the top.

The guitar tone is quite blackened. To me Alcest sounds like black metal turned absolutely on its head and used for good instead of evil.

Hahaa, I used to blare Bathory in my car on the highway.

I have mixtape of the best of Bathory, Hammerheart, Nordland I, Blood Fire Death, and Twilight of the Gods.

I love Blackmetal. It's beautiful to find melodies inside chaos. Hypnotic and christianity bashing, who needs more. Emperor is my personal favourite, its sound so mystic. Impaled Nazarene is other what i listen often. Classic Skandinavian and finnish blackmetal in general are something beatiful.

I want to sound elite: From Sweden two Great blackmetal bands: Cult of luna (not like stereothypical bm, this is relaxing stuff) and Funeral mist, best of newcomers.

Bah. The new Peste Noire is bunk. Not total bunk, mind, It's just so inconsistent that it has awesome bits n' shit bits even within the same 4 minute song.

They burst my veins to pieces, these wan rats inside
With their jaws so contagious of a disease
As if it dropped like pus from the twelve wings of Sammael
The primeval light inside, gift of god and the holy spirit
It bleeds, so swollen by the bubo of this pest divine
The least traces of the consolation of Eden
Were consumed by this heinous blessing in ashes.

Sola Fide. Sola Deo Infernali Gloria.

Verily I say unto you, there is none righteous enough to resist, no, not one...
For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity;
Your lips have spoken lies, your tongue has muttered perversity.
The heart of a lost angel is in the earth, the immaculate is abased... forevermore.

Sola Fide. Sola Deo Infernali Gloria.

Neither stormful convulsions nor an apex of light shall break the yoke
For he that keepeth His commandments dwelleth in him, and He in him.
And hereby we know that He abideth in us, by the Spirit which He hath given us

Some rejoice of the children's innocence and smiles
Others of their shameful defloration by the ministers of Christ, swollen by arrogance and lust
Jesus spoke words of wisdom: "Let the children come to me"
What's more enthralling indeed than ruining through them the genesis of life itself?
Dive deep into the blue eyes of the newborn and thou shalt get a glance of heaven
When this dive reveals despair, hideous ruins of the glory of Hell
The serving sons of disobedience proclaim Vengeance belongeth unto Him...

Sola Fide. Sola Deo Infernali Gloria.

Oh how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under the foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant?
Faith and devotion shall be the stones to the temple
Fanaticism and intransigence ignite the flaming crown of malign essence
That is Your host, Lord, and our burden. Hosanna!

Fanaticism and intransigence ignite the flaming crown of malign essence
That is Your host, Lord, and our burden.
Hosanna!

"The essence of Revelation lies in the fact that it is the direct speech of god to man"

Sola Fide. Sola Deo Infernali Gloria.
Seest thou how faith wrought with his works
And by works was faith made perfect?

Sola Fide. Sola Deo Infernali Gloria.
My god and lord of this earth,
you shall henceforth be the sole object of my thoughts.

Sola Fide. Sola Deo Infernali Gloria.
Wilt thou know, O vain man,
that faith without works is dead?

This album is absolutely brilliant

I thought SMRC was fairly dull. Fas, however, is excellent.
Oh, I finally understood the deal with Paysage D'Hiver.
