A few weeks ago I was thinking about how I used to compulsively make mental lists of my favorite bands, favorite songs, favorite music videos, yadda yadda. It occurred to me that only recently would I have included Alice in Chains' "Rooster" on my list of favorite music videos. Thinking further, I realized that "Rooster" does a damn good job of violating any image of what a music video is--it simply transcends the genre. I can't think of any music video that comes close to it in terms of greatness.
As far as emotional reaction goes, I guess for me the video for "Ich bin die Sehnsucht in Dir" comes pretty close, but I wouldn't say that it's nearly as good. Same goes for Rammstein's "Ohne Dich", I guess. Seriously, guys, YouTube the video for "Rooster" if you haven't seen it already, and try to come up with something better.
