My personal favorite would be the Pyro, but the Sniper is much more usefull(when the player doesn't SUCK)

I don't think there is a best class, as each class has a role which is tailored to suit a specific task within the team. Although it could be argued that there are best classes for specific maps (depending on if you're attacking or defending). For example the best class in Well is the Soldier.
The demo man is a pretty good all-rounder because the sticky bombs are perfect for taking out sentry and defending cap points, but without any real direct fire weapon they make easy targets for scouts and alike.
It could also be said that the medic is the best class because you can support the front line giving your team the ability to keep constant pressure on a cap point.
I would also disagree that the sniper is the best class. I don't think I've ever seen a game which has been won based on the actions of a sniper, whereas a good spy or medic/heavy combo can completely destroy an enemy cap point. The only level I can think of in which a sniper can make a real difference is the last stage/last cap point of dustbowl.

I said scout because those fuckers are retarded when some twitch UT2K3 players are using them ;<

Heavy all the way.

I have killed so many heavies as a scout, demoman, and spy that I'm beginning to think their uniform should have a big target on it.

I guess it depends on who you play with. I played Team Fortress on X-Box Live and I've always done exceedingly well...
Then again, I usually always make sure I got a Medic behind me and an Engineer making ammo dumps...

I'd say Granary is the best Heavy map. Mainly because most other people go scout and at short ranges you can turn scouts to Swiss cheese in about 3 seconds flat.

I'm fuckin' silly as a pyro. They're faster than people take them for and they're the most annoying class.

The funniest class is the Spy... I see so many people just fuck up it up... Like they go for that stab kill at the most inoppurtune times.

I hate it when fucking retards can't tell that a spy is sapping their sentry. Meanwhile, I'm shooting the cloaked dude and they don't know why I'm shooting at the "ally," aside from the fact that HE HAS MY DAMN NAME.

Seriously.
Its like some of the retards from Halo went to Team Fortress out of rejection, so they can make that game suck just as bad.
I'm more of a Rainbow Six person myself.... Tactics > Run N' Gun.

I think TF2 has a much greater range of tactics than RS.

But nobody wants to be the Pyro. So then I switch to the Pyro, even though I want to be a medic, scout, heavy, and engineer at once.
I play the offensive engineer on 2Fort where I grab the flag and run it back. I'll build a turret halfway around a corner to take care of any tails if they're pretty slow.

By the way, the Spy's gun is extremely evil and powerful. I love it so.

You're correct, simply because its a class based game.
Its also great that you can apply a Rainbowesque mindset to playing this game, because I've noticed most people don't play in any sort of organized fashion, and communicate even less.

I like to play as the spy, and pyro, for the whole 10 minutes I got to play.

I agree that as a class-based game, there is no best or worst class in any situation. It's all subjective. Except for the goddamn sniper: if you're playing as a sniper, I will guarantee you that there are at least eight more useful classes you could be in any situation, ever.
I'm a damn fine engineer myself, but I'm often the only one who looks at the "people on your team" list before choosing a class. More than half the team being engies = time to find another server. Other than that, my greatest joy in TF2 is setting spies on fire.

I usually do better as a pyro, but I hate them.

noobs usually pick sniper because they figure their FPS skills are transferable. At least, that's why I picked him at first.
the best thing about being a demoman is outsmarting people, which is also the best thing abotu being a spy :< I frequently have to run away, but I shoot stickies at my feet and then blow them up when I'm clear and ALWAYS get pyros that way.
I also sometimes do that when I'm not being chased just in case some spy is trying to be awesome.

I found out I'm incredibly good as a sniper. His machine pistol makes him an excellent mid-range fighter against all but the heaviest of heavys and soldiers.
Also, it's incredibly satisfying to use that machete. The thing most people don't get is that you have to take a shot and then book it to another position, because your position is compromised when you kill somebody.
Damn killcam.

I play as a spy mostly.
I find that it's very easy to do well as a pyro, and I'm usually at the top of the board when I'm playing as one. Spies are the most unstable class I think, with one run resulting in six consecutive deaths and the next run ending in an entire shut down of their base.
I never eeeever play as a heavy though.
Samfucius

Well, I would definitely agree that people rarely play as the sniper, but it's not because the class sucks (in my opinion), it's just that the learning curve is so much steeper. A properly placed, good sniper can keep the other team off of your mechanics, turrets, etc. for quite awhile. The real problem with snipers is that people try to play them as though they are a soldier or heavy, and fail miserably.
Granted, a team with more than two snipers is a team that is going to get their ass handed to them, no matter how good the snipers are.

schimid and I were playing TF2 over here the other day on gravelpit, attacking, and a sniper joined our team. schimid was all "WHY DO WE HAVE A SNIPER THE LAST THING IN THE WORLD THAT WE NEED IS A SNIPER" and then immediately afterwards the sniper wiped out the entire opposing team.
schimid's response was "well, i'm sorry. i DID NOT KNOW."

To be fair, there were only four people on each team. Never have I ever played another game where 25% sniping made the attacking team better.

Depends on what the other team has. For example a heavy medic combo's biggest enemy is a decent sniper. Also sentries and engineers can be easy pickings.

How IS the sniping mechanic in this game? I haven't played it in awhile, and I don't think I will anytime soon. Is it comparable to any other type of FPS?

It's very rare for a sniper to be useful enough on a team of less than nine - because there are at least eight classed more useful than him. That said, I'm playing a sniper and scout (my hated classes) these days to get a better feel for them. It's pretty fun, a completely different game - albeit a game I'm not NEARLY as good as as my usual Engineer/Soldier/Medic game.

I only ask because I usually snipe on the other FPSs I play, with the exception of Rainbow.

So 4chan has its own level in this game now, and here are a bunch of pictures of it.
The thing is huge and will occasionally fill up with water for no reason. Also, there are a number of '4chan party vans' that will fly up to the roof if you can't make the hike up there through the building. I have no idea how to make them take off, and if course none of the channers were about to tell me.
If you're wondering what the '(name) <)))' shit in the lower right is about, it's the 3 or so people that are simultaneously serenading you with the hottest internet anthems at all times on this map.
The best way to describe the map itself is 'the internet has a nightmare.'

My big question is, can you interact with any of that eye candy? Because it would be great to look at, don't getme wrong, but think of how much more amazing it would be if you, for example, shot the picture of Mario and you heard the 'Mario Dying' music.
That would be nirvana.
