I clicked on Geggy's link, read the comments and noticed only one person remarked that Roy Schieder(sp?) was Dr. Benway in Naked Lunch.
I also saw Marathon Man for the 1st time about 2 months ago. He was decent in that. Watching the extras, I guess he did his stunts for that movie.
Strangely, I don't recall the link Geggy providing even reporting HOW he died. Just "He's dead but wasn't he great in Jaws?"

Damn right he was great in Jaws. That is what he will be remembered the most for. The French Connection is remembered the most for the best car chase scene ever.
From various source:
Scheider died of complications from multiple myeloma, a cancer of the blood cells, at the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, hospital spokesperson Leslie Taylor said.

Not to piss on his memory, but one of the last things he did was a voice for Family Guy which involved him showing Stewie how to use the bathroom. The phrase 'and now here's Susan St. James to show you how to wipe' has to go down as one of the saddest final last lines of a career EVER.

After that he was also on an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, then he narrated the Jaws documentary The Shark is Still Working. Don't forget the two movies he has coming out this year.
