I finally pulled my PS2 out of storage (Just for Fire Pro Wrestling Returns) and im thinking of buying a Network Adapter and some games. Just wondering if a purchase of a Network Adapter is worth it at this point in the systems lifecycle. Or if there are still some games being played online at all at this point.

I have never played a single game online with a console. However I just purchased an xbox 360 and plan to hook it up online as soon as I get a long enough ethernet cable.

They might be picking up Metal Gear Solid 3's online support again, with the release of the Essentials pack next month.

I played an online game of Madden 2006 for about 10 minutes and the lag was so bad I quit and never played ps2 online again.

I was quite enamored with EverQuest Online Adventures a few years ago. There are still people playing, but the hard part is probably finding a new copy of the game.
