I've always been a little interested in this, and I finally decided to youtube the series after seeing the potato chip scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaoy1QKxGQs).

I've only seen two episodes, but goddamn it's good.

Why I didn't like it from then on.
The interaction with the spirit monster things were interesting and new. Taking them away leaves it as a big company money conspiracy. I know it's gonna switch back... but it's taking too long and losing my interest with each episode.

It's good, but I've found I have to kinda skip around on the episode to enjoy it, like to get past the boring scenes that do nothing to the plot.

I admit it is pretty weak right now. I'm more looking forward to when things get back to how they were before this particular arc, just because I can't imagine how that could happen from the present circumstances.

In "Execution" L convinces lights dad to pretend he's going to execute Light and Misa in an attempt to get him to confess. But seeing as Light ditched his death note and is now a goody goody douche his dad ultimately get's nothing out of him and then puts down the gun feeling all relieved n' such. That's all I remember clearly. It may have also been the episode where L makes Light his bondage pal by throwing the cuffs on him so they can be together 24/7 but I don't quite recall. Sorry this reply is late.

Light's dad fires a blank at him as a test, because if Light was really Kira his dad would have died before he made the shot. That's what happened.

Then it stopped being good, and I haven't watched an episode since!

Anyways, I missed this weeks.

They watch the Yotsuba guys talk about who they'll kill next, and Light's dad wants to arrest them on that, but L wants to let them kill the next few people so they'll have definitive proof and be that much closer to catching Kira. Light calls one of the board members, pretending to be L, and blackmails him into delaying the killings for a month.

At the end of the episode, the investigative teams splits up; Light's dad, Matsuda, and that other guy try to figure out the best way to arrest all the board members, and L devises a plan to use Misa to help root out Kira. Light joins him because they're handcuffed together.

Well, by that point, L still doesn't know about the Death Notes, so I guess his assumption is that Kira can kill at will as long as he knows his victim's name and face.

I guess. I'm beginning to wonder if they'll ever explain why he freaked out so bad when the first mention of "shinigami" came up.
